<br />01 - 244 -The following call for the meeting was read:
<br />
<br /> "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held at the Bide-A-Wee
<br />Golf Course (The Pavilion), 1 Bide-A-Wee Drive, Portsmouth, Virginia, on Friday,
<br />August 17, 2001 at 9:00 a.m. for the purpose of a Summer Meeting.
<br />
<br />In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting.
<br />
<br />By order of the Mayor."

<br />01 - 245 - The following items were discussed in Public Work Session:

<br />01 246 - Motion by Mr. Pitts, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to go into Closed
<br />Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.1-344(A) of the Code of Virginia, to discuss
<br />or consider the following:
<br />
<br /> appointments by Council to boards and commissions, as authorized by
<br />paragraph 1.
<br />
<br />The motion was adopted by unanimous vote.
<br />
<br /> Motion by Mr. Benn, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, pursuant to Section
<br />2.1-344. I(D) of the Code of Virginia certifying that to the best of the Council Member's
<br />knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council:
<br />
<br />1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting
<br /> requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and
<br />
<br />Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion by which
<br />the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in
<br />the meeting by the City Council.

<br />The motion was adopted by unanimous vote.
