NEW BUSINESS 86-41 Councilman Beamer offered the following nominations for appointments to the following Boards/Conmissions: Museum and Fine Arts Commission Edward L. Joyner for a term of three years, expiring November 1, 1988; replacing Warren Channel. Mechanical Examining Board appointed Sidney Jones and Roderick T~iplett, III,/for a term of one year, expiring January 1, Frank Pilkington, Robert Perkins and Robert McCurdy appointed for a term of two years, expiring January 1, 1988. 1987 The Sports Authority of Hampton Roads, Virginia Morton V. Whitlow (No Term) Motion of Mr. Beamer and seconded by further nominations, the above members to was adopted by unanimous vote. Mr. Gray, to close nominations, and there being no be elected to the designated Boards/Commissions, and 86-41(a) - On motion of Mrs,' Webb and seconded by Mr. Corprew, the following resolution was adopted, and by the following vote: "A RESOLDTION DISSOLVING CERTAIN BOARDS AND COMMISSION CREATED AND APPOINTED BY THE CITY COUNCIL: TERMINATING THE TERM OF MEMBERS OF CERTAIN BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS. WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth has, throughout the years, created Boards and Commissions and made appointments thereof as well as to regional and state boards and commissions; and WHEREAS, the purposes of these boards and commissions and the appointment of persons ther to are to assist City Council and, where appropriate, other local governing bodies in this region and across the Commonwealth, in achieving the goal of improving the quality of life for the citizens of this City and the surrounding areas; and WHEREAS, the goals and objectives of certain boards and commissions may, in time, be met or assumed by other boards and commissions and, therefore, such boards and commissions should be disbanded. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Portsmouth disbands the Citizens Committee on Taxes and Mandates and the Portsmouth Housing Development Board and terminates the terms of the members thereof as of the effective date of this resolution. BE IT FURTHER RESOLYED that t~e Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia terminates the terms of the members appointed!by the Council to serve on the Patrick Henry Hospital Board, the Regional Airport Advisory Committee, and the Hampton Roads Area Committee, such terms to expire as o£ the effectiv~ date of this resolution."
