May 23, 2023 <br /> <br /> Dr. Whitaker asked that Interim City Manager Terry provide an update on the $4.7 <br /> <br />million request from the superintendent. He also asked that Ms. Terry provide an <br />update on the duties of the Sheriff’s office. <br /> <br /> Dr. Whitaker asked that City Attorney Graham-Williams invite Dr. Newby-Alexander <br /> <br />to provide a presentation on the historical context of Sugar Hill. He also asked that <br />more information be provided on the Greater Portsmouth Development Cooperation’s <br />(GPDC) involvement in the Sugar Hill properties. <br /> <br />th <br /> Mr. Hugel reminded citizens and City Council of the 139 Annual Memorial Day <br /> <br />Parade <br />. <br /> <br /> Mr. Tillage spoke on the 200+ Men Scholars Breakfast. <br /> <br /> <br /> Mayor Glover congratulated Vice Mayor Lucas-Burke on becoming the Chairperson <br /> <br />of Virginia First Cities. <br /> <br /> Mayor Glover also spoke on the 200+ Men Scholars Breakfast. <br /> <br /> <br />23 - 190 - Report on Pending Items <br /> <br /> <br /> There were no pending items. <br /> <br />23 - 190 - Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />1. Jo Hunter, 800 Crawford Street, voiced her concern with the lack of follow up by a <br />police officer. <br /> <br />2. Ron Sauer, 4701 Summerset Drive, asked that the City have volunteers at all levels <br />of government that can provide unique ideas. <br /> <br />3. Angela Britt, 18 Parkview Avenue, voiced her concern with gun violence in the City <br /> and with what she believes is a lack of services for families that are traumatized. <br /> <br />4. Joseph Teartt, 120 Nero Drive, spoke in support of the Interim City Manager being <br />hired as City Manager. <br /> <br />5. Cedric Cradle, 725 Bold Street, voiced his concern of the growing list of youth falling <br />victim to gun violence. <br /> <br />6. Leon Hammonds, 809 Bouie Court, voiced his concern with tax and fee increases. <br /> <br />7. Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky, P. O. Box 50141, asked that the City Council rectify the <br />inequities of residents that have been displaced. <br /> <br />8. William Dodson, 801 Mimosa Road, asked that City Council follow Robert’s Rules of <br />Order and Procedure. <br /> <br />9. Hunter Morris, 145 Lake Terrace, Suffolk, voiced his concern with trash along roads <br />and highways. <br /> <br /> Mayor Glover informed citizens of the wearing of green ribbons in honor of Mental <br /> <br />Health Awareness Month. <br /> <br /> On motion, meeting adjourned at 9:38 p.m. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
