November 10, 2020 <br /> <br />WHEREAS, <br /> the City of Portsmouth has certain concerns that deal with both <br />Portsmouth specifically and local governments in general; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, <br />these concerns need to be made known to Portsmouth's <br />congressional delegation so that they may be transmitted for consideration by the Senate <br />and the House of Representatives. <br /> <br />NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED <br /> by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, that it endorses the positions listed on Exhibit A hereto for inclusion in the <br />Legislative Package for consideration by the 117th Congress and directs that both this <br />Resolution and the Legislative Package be forwarded to the City’s congressional <br />representatives. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED <br /> that the City Manager and/or his designee(s) are <br />hereby authorized and directed to provide necessary input and clarification during the <br />th <br />117 Congress session and to carry out other activities as needed to assist in attaining <br />.” <br />the goals and objectives contained in the City’s 2021 Legislative Package <br /> <br />Ayes: Battle, Clark, Glover, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Psimas, Rowe <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />- New Business - <br /> <br />20 - 280 - Boards and Commissions <br /> <br />There were no appointments. <br /> <br />20 - 281 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br /> <br />Adoption of an ordinance accepting CARES Act funding in the sum of <br /> <br />$750,000 from the Commonwealth of Virginia and appropriating said amount in the <br />FY 2021 Grants fund for use by the Department of Information Technology for the <br />Broadband Wireless Project. <br /> <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Lucas-Burke, and seconded by Mr. Battle, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />“ORDINANCE ACCEPTING CARES ACT FUNDING IN THE SUM OF $750,000 FROM <br />THE COMMONWEALTH OF VIRGINIA AND APPROPRIATING SAID AMOUNT IN THE <br />FY 2021 GRANTS FUND FOR USE BY THE DEPARTMENT OF INFORMATION <br />TECHNOLOGY FOR THE BROADBAND WIRELESS PROJECT.” <br /> <br />Ayes: Battle, Clark, Glover, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Psimas, Rowe <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> Mr. Glover thanked his City Council colleagues for their support during this election <br /> <br />season and also thanked citizens for voting. <br /> <br /> Mr. Battle congratulated Councilman Glover on being elected to the position of Mayor <br /> <br />and also Vice Mayor Lucas-Burke on being re-elected to City Council. He also <br />commended Councilman Clark on a well-run campaign. <br /> <br /> <br /> Vice Mayor Lucas-Burkethanked her City Council colleagues for their support during <br /> <br />this election season <br /> <br /> <br /> Mayor Rowe commended Delores Overton-Short, General Registrar, for a job well <br /> <br />done during this election season. <br /> <br /> Ms. Psimas spoke on the following: <br /> <br />th <br /> <br />-245 Birthday of the United States Marine Corps <br /> <br />-Veteran’s Day Event <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
