<br />February 18, 2020 <br /> <br />At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, February 18, 2020, there <br />were present: <br /> <br />Mayor John L. Rowe, Jr., *Vice Mayor Lisa L. Lucas-Burke, William E. Moody, Jr., <br />Elizabeth M. Psimas, Nathan J. Clark, Paul J. Battle, Shannon E. Glover. <br /> <br />20 - 67 - The Mayor called the meeting to order and welcomed all in attendance: <br /> <br /> "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held at I. C. Norcom <br />High School, 1801 London Boulevard, 6:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 18, 2020 for the <br />purpose of a Community Meeting. <br /> <br /> In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. <br /> <br />By order of the Mayor." <br /> <br />20 - 68 - The following items were presented: <br /> <br />1. Census Presentation - Gina Harris, Resiliency Officer <br /> <br />2. Economic Development Presentation - Robert Moore, Economic Development <br /> Director <br /> <br />3. Broadband Authority Presentation - Daniel Jones, Chief Information Officer <br /> <br />4. Recreation Presentation - James Wright, City Engineer <br /> <br />The following concerns were discussed by citizens: <br /> <br />1. Need for apprentice programs and skills training jobs. <br /> <br />2. Implementation of shotspotter technology. <br /> <br />3. Better communication from staff. <br /> <br />4. Funding for schools and public safety. <br /> <br />5. Tidewater Community College Vocational Center. <br /> <br />6. Concern with drug dealers in neighborhood. <br /> <br />7. Tunnel toll relief. <br /> <br />8. Vocational training and workforce development for transient citizens. <br /> <br />9. Vagrancy in neighborhoods. <br /> <br />10. Moving of government building away from the waterfront. <br /> <br />11. FBI investigation of former police chief. <br /> <br />12. Importance of community involvement and engagement. <br /> <br />13. Increase police presence in neighborhoods. <br /> <br />14. School formula funding for education. <br /> <br />15. Concern with tax increases. <br /> <br />On motion, meeting adjourned at 8:01 p.m. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
