<br />January 6, 2020 <br /> <br />At a Regular Meeting of the City Council on Monday, January 6, 2020, there were <br />present: <br /> <br />Mayor John L. Rowe, Jr., Vice Mayor Lisa L. Lucas-Burke, William E. Moody, Jr., <br />Elizabeth M. Psimas, Nathan J. Clark, Paul J. Battle, Shannon E. Glover, City Manager <br />Dr. L. Pettis Patton, City Attorney Solomon H. Ashby, Jr. <br /> <br />Councilman Paul J. Battle opened the meeting with prayer, which was followed <br />by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. <br /> <br /> Mayor Rowe called the meeting to order and welcomed all in attendance. <br /> <br />Budget Engagement Survey - Audience participation <br /> <br />- Public Hearing - <br /> <br />20-04 <br /> Public hearing to present suggestions, opinions and ideas regarding <br />items that should or should not be included in the upcoming FY 2021 <br />City Budget. <br /> <br />1. Lorenzo Grandison, 142 Dale Drive, asked that funds be allocated to toll relief. <br /> <br />2. Tom Angle, 142 River Point Crescent, spoke in support of funding for education. <br /> <br />3. Stephanie Liverman, 167 Mount Vernon Avenue, asked that there be funding for <br />education, public safety and implementation of suggestions from poverty task <br />force. <br /> <br />4. John Lifsey, 229 Mount Vernon Avenue, asked for funding for the Port Norfolk <br />Recreation Center. <br /> <br />5. Donna Sayegh, 3104 Garland Drive, voiced concerns with how City Council will <br />compensate for the non-taxable land in the City. <br /> <br />6. Wayne Davis, 319 Worthington Square, spoke in support of increased funding for <br />the schools. <br /> <br />7. David Somers, 5 Irwin Street, asked that funding be devoted to the historic areas <br />in the City. <br /> <br />8. Sheila Joseph, 139 Grand Street, asked that funding be provided for storm water <br />drainage. <br /> <br />9. Michael Joly, 304 High Street, asked that funding be used to improve <br />communication between departments for those looking to start a business in the <br />City. <br /> <br />10. Erika Nestler, 413 Douglas Avenue, asked that the budget include funding to <br />maintain public building that service the neighborhoods. <br /> <br />11. Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky, P. O. Box 50141, asked that there be increased funding <br />for education. <br /> <br />12. Bracey Parr, 11 Afton Parkway, asked that there be increased funding for <br />education and collaboration with TCC. He also asked for funding for a dog park. <br /> <br />13. Garland Alexander, 2913 Tanbark Lane, asked that funding be provided for police <br />and fire retirees, widows/widowers. <br /> <br />Budget Engagement Survey - Audience participation <br /> <br />On motion, meeting adjourned at 7:32 p.m. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
