<br />September 16, 2019 <br /> <br />At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Monday, September 16, 2019, there <br />were present: <br /> <br />Mayor John L. Rowe, Jr., *Vice Mayor Lisa L. Lucas-Burke, William E. Moody, Jr., <br />Elizabeth M. Psimas, Paul J. Battle, *Shannon E. Glover. <br /> <br />19 - 336 - The following call for the meeting was read: <br /> <br /> "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held at the Bide-A-Wee <br />Pavilion, 1 Bide-A-Wee Lane, 7:00 p.m., Monday, September 16, 2019 for the purpose <br />of a Community Meeting. <br /> <br /> In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. <br /> <br />By order of the Mayor." <br /> <br />The following concerns were discussed by citizens: <br /> <br />1. Relocation of City Hall and public safety building. <br /> <br />2. Police response times. <br /> <br />3. Bars being robbed downtown. <br /> <br />4. Central location of City Hall. <br /> <br />5. Right turn only traffic signal at George Washington Highway and Bainbridge <br />Avenue. <br /> <br />6. Pot hole at Deep Creek Boulevard and Belhaven Road. <br /> <br />7. Vacant house at Deep Creek Boulevard and Belhaven Road. <br /> <br />8. Need for citizen input on the location of new fire station in Cradock. <br /> <br />9. Better understanding of the Public-Private Education and Infrastructure Act (PPEA) <br />and Request for Proposal (RFP) processes. <br /> <br />10. Crime in Cradock and West Cradock. More police presence needed. <br /> <br />11. Better advertisement of Coffee Talk. <br /> <br />12. Dredging of Portsmouth Marine Terminal (PMT) for larger ships. <br /> <br />13. Concerns with casino proposal. <br /> <br />14. Increase in police department staffing. <br /> <br />15. Relocation of city jail. <br /> <br />16. Basic life skills and technical training for students. Need for trade schools. <br /> <br />17. 911 response time issues. <br /> <br />18. Use existing structures for development. <br /> <br />19. Completion of projects in City’s master plan. <br /> <br />20. Non-emergency number not working. <br /> <br />21. What happens to revenue generated from proposed casino? <br /> <br />22. Effect of casino on existing businesses. <br /> <br />On motion, meeting adjourned at 8:55 p.m. <br /> <br /> <br />
