<br />May 14, 2019 <br /> <br />At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, there were <br />present: <br /> <br />Mayor John L. Rowe, Jr., Vice Mayor Lisa L. Lucas-Burke, William E. Moody, Jr., <br />Elizabeth M. Psimas, Nathan J. Clark, Paul J. Battle, Shannon E. Glover, City Manager <br />Dr. L. Pettis Patton, City Attorney Solomon H. Ashby, Jr. <br /> <br />19 - 178 - The following call for the meeting was read: <br /> <br />th <br /> "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the 6 Floor <br />Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 14, 2019 for the <br />purpose of a Public Work Session. <br /> <br /> In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. <br /> <br />By order of the Mayor." <br /> <br />19 - 179 - The following items were discussed in Public Work Session: <br /> <br />1. Seawall Ribbon Cutting <br /> <br />Introduction of Gina Harris, Resiliency Officer and Keith Toler, Assistant Director of <br />Parks Recreation and Tourism - Dr. Patton, City Manager <br /> <br />2. Technological Security - Daniel Jones, Chief Information Officer <br /> <br />3. 2020 Census Count Commission - Dr. Patton, City Manager <br /> <br />-Councilman Glover suggested a Civic League Summit to help promote the 2020 <br /> <br />Census Count Commission. <br /> <br />4. City Manager’s Report Review/Report Backs - Dr. Patton, City Manager <br /> <br /> 801 Water Street update - Bob Baldwin, Deputy City Manager <br /> <br />5. City Council Liaison Reports <br /> <br />-Councilman Glover <br /> - <br /> <br /> Retirement Board update. <br /> <br />-Mayor Rowe - <br /> <br /> Joint Land Use Study Policy Meeting update. <br /> <br /> Councilman Moody asked for and received a consensus of City Council to look into <br /> <br />providing a $600 stipend to retired police and firefighters. <br /> <br /> Mayor Rowe received a consensus of City Council to provide a $600 stipend to retired <br /> <br />police and firefighters contingent upon a surplus of monies being available for that <br />stipend. <br /> <br />19 - 180 - Motion by Ms. Psimas, and seconded by Ms. Lucas-Burke, to go into Closed <br />Meeting pursuant to Virginia Code subsection 2.2-3711 A.3 for the purpose of discussing <br />the acquisition and/or disposition of publicly held or controlled real property where <br />discussion in an open meeting would adversely affect the bargaining position or <br />negotiating strategy of the public body, specifically regarding development of a new fire <br />station. <br /> <br />The motion was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Battle, Clark, Glover, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Psimas, Rowe <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> Motion by Ms. Lucas-Burke, and seconded by Mr. Moody, pursuant to Section 2.2- <br />3712(D) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members’ <br />knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
