January 15, 2019 At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, there were present: Mayor John L. Rowe, Jr., Vice Mayor Lisa L. Lucas-Burke, *William E. Moody, Jr., Elizabeth M. Psimas, Nathan J. Clark, *Paul J. Battle, Shannon E. Glover. 18 - 20 - The following call for the meeting was read: "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held at the Bide-A-Wee Pavilion, 1 Bide-A-Wee Lane, 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 15, 2019 for the purpose of a Community Meeting. In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. By order of the Mayor." The following concerns were discussed by citizens: 1. Concerns with relocation of Cradock fire station. Citizens want to be a part of decision making process. 2. Wanted date for new zoning code. 3. Redevelopment of Afton Square. 4. Need to tell the Portsmouth story. Also, the need for more positive stories to dismiss negative perception of the City. 5. Reinvention of City Park. 6. More events in the City. 7. Better education and providing more opportunities for the youth. 8. Cox cable issue in the NewPort Development. 9. Buildings in disrepair on High Street. City needs to find uses for these buildings. 10. More recreation for the youth in the City. 11. 45 Afton Parkway in disrepair. 12. Lack of recreation and tutorial programs. 13. Concerns with casino proposal. 14. Need for dog parks 15. Retention ponds in the NewPort Development. 16. “Fix It” button for citizens to report issues in the City. 17. Need for non-emergency number and 911 response time issues. 18. More economic development such as Cracker Barrel. 19. Pot holes on George Washington Highway. 20. Speeding in Cradock neighborhood. 21. Street lights needed on Foxwood Drive. 22. Clogged storm drains. 23. No Cradock representation on the Historic Preservation Committee.
