<br />January 15, 2019 <br /> <br />At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, January 15, 2019, there <br />were present: <br /> <br />Mayor John L. Rowe, Jr., Vice Mayor Lisa L. Lucas-Burke, *William E. Moody, Jr., <br />Elizabeth M. Psimas, Nathan J. Clark, *Paul J. Battle, Shannon E. Glover. <br /> <br />18 - 20 - The following call for the meeting was read: <br /> <br /> "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held at the Bide-A-Wee <br />Pavilion, 1 Bide-A-Wee Lane, 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 15, 2019 for the purpose of <br />a Community Meeting. <br /> <br /> In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. <br /> <br />By order of the Mayor." <br /> <br />The following concerns were discussed by citizens: <br /> <br />1. Concerns with relocation of Cradock fire station. Citizens want to be a part of <br />decision making process. <br /> <br />2. Wanted date for new zoning code. <br /> <br />3. Redevelopment of Afton Square. <br /> <br />4. Need to tell the Portsmouth story. Also, the need for more positive stories to <br />dismiss negative perception of the City. <br /> <br />5. Reinvention of City Park. <br /> <br />6. More events in the City. <br /> <br />7. Better education and providing more opportunities for the youth. <br /> <br />8. Cox cable issue in the NewPort Development. <br /> <br />9. Buildings in disrepair on High Street. City needs to find uses for these buildings. <br /> <br />10. More recreation for the youth in the City. <br /> <br />11. 45 Afton Parkway in disrepair. <br /> <br />12. Lack of recreation and tutorial programs. <br /> <br />13. Concerns with casino proposal. <br /> <br />14. Need for dog parks <br /> <br />15. Retention ponds in the NewPort Development. <br /> <br />16. “Fix It” button for citizens to report issues in the City. <br /> <br />17. Need for non-emergency number and 911 response time issues. <br /> <br />18. More economic development such as Cracker Barrel. <br /> <br />19. Pot holes on George Washington Highway. <br /> <br />20. Speeding in Cradock neighborhood. <br /> <br />21. Street lights needed on Foxwood Drive. <br /> <br />22. Clogged storm drains. <br /> <br />23. No Cradock representation on the Historic Preservation Committee. <br /> <br /> <br />
