<br />October 23, 2017 <br /> <br />At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Monday, October 23, 2017, there were <br />present: <br /> <br />Mayor John L. Rowe, Jr., Vice Mayor Paige D. Cherry, William E. Moody, Jr., Elizabeth <br />M. Psimas, Dr. Mark M. Whitaker, Nathan J. Clark, Lisa L. Lucas-Burke, City Manager <br />Dr. L. Pettis Patton, City Attorney Solomon H. Ashby, Jr. <br /> <br />17 - 455 - The Mayor called the meeting to order and welcomed all in attendance: <br /> <br /> "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the City Council <br />Chamber, 801 Crawford Street, 5:00 p.m., Monday, October 23, 2017 for the purpose of <br />a Public Work Session. <br /> <br /> In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. <br /> <br />By order of the Mayor." <br /> <br />17 - 456 - The following item was discussed in Public Work Session: <br /> <br />1. Burton’s Point Update - Randy Sturgeon, Remedial Project Manager, Environmental <br />Protection Agency <br />- City Manager Patton will schedule a return visit for Mr. Sturgeon to report back. <br /> <br />17 - 457 - Motion by Ms. Lucas-Burke, and seconded by Mr. Clark, to go into a Closed <br />Meeting pursuant to Virginia Code 2.2-3711 A.1 for the purpose of: <br /> <br />Discussion, consideration and interviews of candidates for the position of City <br />Assessor; and <br /> <br />Pursuant to Virginia Code subsection 2.2-3711 A.6 for the purpose of discussing <br />the investment of public funds where competition or bargaining is involved, specifically <br />regarding the community development block grant program. <br /> <br />The motion was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Clark, Cherry, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Psimas, Whitaker, Rowe <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Lucas-Burke, and seconded by Mr. Moody, pursuant to Virginia <br />Code Section 2.2-3712(D) certifying that, to the best of the Council Members’ knowledge: <br /> <br />1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting <br />requirements under the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and <br /> <br />2. Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion by which the <br />Closed Meeting was convened <br /> <br />were heard, discussed or considered in the closed meeting just concluded by the City <br />Council. <br /> <br /> The motion was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Clark, Cherry, Lucas-Burke, Moody, Psimas, Rowe <br />Nays: Whitaker <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
