Cherry, *William E. Moody, Jr., Elizabeth <br />M. Psimas, *Dr. Mark M. Whitaker, Nathan J. Clark, Lisa L. Lucas-Burke, City Manager <br />Dr. L. Pettis Patton, City Attorney Solomon H. Ashby, Jr. <br /> <br />17 - 219 - The Mayor called the meeting to order and welcomed all in attendance: <br /> <br />th <br /> "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the 6 Floor <br />Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 23, 2017 for the <br />purpose of a Public Work Session. <br /> <br /> In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. <br /> <br />By order of the Mayor." <br /> <br />Portsmouth Port and Industrial Commission (PPIC) Members Present: <br />Edward Barham, Chair <br />James Bento, Vice Chair <br /> <br />Captain George Watkins, Treasurer <br />Guy “Rob” Maguire <br />Grant Reineberg <br />James Toups <br />Guy Wallace <br /> <br />17 - 220 - The following item was discussed in Public Work Session: <br /> <br />1. Joint Meeting City Council and Portsmouth Port and Industrial Commission <br /> <br /> Mayor Rowe asked that Debra White, City Clerk, set up a meeting with Shipyard <br /> <br />Commander Brown, PPIC Chair Edward Barham, City Manager Patton and <br />appropriate staff to discuss use of property located off Burton’s Point Road. <br /> <br /> Mayor Rowe asked and received a consensus of City Council to have a joint meeting <br /> <br />with the Economic Development Authority and PPIC. <br /> <br />. <br />2City Council Liaison Reports <br /> <br />-Councilwoman Psimas - <br /> <br /> Military Affairs Update. <br /> <br />-Councilwoman Lucas-Burke - <br /> <br /> Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing Authority (PRHA) update. <br /> <br /> Southeastern Tidewater Opportunity Project (STOP) Inc., update. <br /> <br /> Councilman Whitaker asked for an update on the development of the former Cradock <br /> <br />High School site (Afton Green) at the next meeting. <br /> <br /> Councilman Moody asked if the closing occurred on the Afton Green property. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> City Attorney Ashby informed City Council that there was a closing date of April 25, <br />2017 but there were due diligence issues with regards to the property and that the <br />closing would probably occur before the next meeting. <br /> <br /> Mayor Rowe asked that if the closing happened prior to the next meeting that an <br /> <br />update be sent to City Council.
