July 12, 2016 <br /> <br />Social Services Advisory Commission <br /> <br />Melvina Snead to be appointed to a term ending June 30, 2019, replacing Patrice Ward. <br /> <br />Wetlands Board <br /> <br />Jennifer Monument to be appointed to a term ending May 31, 2019, replacing Brandon <br />Griffin. <br /> <br />Eric Woodley to be appointed to a term ending May 31, 2018, replacing Samuel Payton. <br /> <br />Motion by Dr. Edmonds, and seconded by Dr. Whitaker, to close nominations <br />and the above nomination was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Psimas, Whitaker, Wright <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />16 - 222 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br /> Vice Mayor Psimas spoke on the following: <br /> <br /> <br /> Cross training of City Clerk Staff. <br /> <br /> New City website. <br /> <br /> Dr. Whitaker spoke on the following: <br /> <br /> <br /> Asked for update from City Manager Patton on the Living Wage issue. <br /> City Manager Patton informed citizens and City Council that she was still <br />o <br />gathering information and would give a preliminary report on July 26, 2016. <br /> <br /> Asked for an update on the Women and Minority Owned Business Enterprise <br />policy. <br /> City Attorney Ashby informed citizens and City Council that the policy had <br />o <br />been reviewed and should be available in its final form within a couple weeks. <br /> <br /> Asked City Attorney Ashby for an update on the Virginia Supreme Court ruling as <br />it related to the Danville Confederate Monument issue. <br /> City Attorney Ashby informed citizens and City Council that the Heritage <br />o <br />Preservation vs. the City of Danville case was refused by the Supreme Court <br />of Virginia on June 17, 2016 and that a pending petition for rehearing was <br />filed on June 28, 2016. <br /> <br /> Mayor Wright spoke on the following: <br /> <br /> <br /> Congratulated Matthew Outten on his Eagle Scout designation. <br /> <br /> Congratulated citizens and Police Chief Chapman on a successful community <br />trust forum. <br /> <br /> Thanked citizens for peaceful protests and also thanked Police Chief Chapman <br />and police on their handling of the situation. <br /> <br /> Dr. Whitaker commended Police Chief Chapman for her excellent leadership during <br /> <br />the protests. <br /> <br /> Mr. Cherry commended Police Chief Chapman for her excellent leadership during <br /> <br />the protests and voiced his disappointment with comments made by a colleague <br />about protesters. <br /> <br /> Dr. Edmonds commended Police Chief Chapman on the extraordinary job by her <br /> <br />and police during protests. <br /> <br />16 - 223 - Report on Pending Items <br /> <br />There were no pending items. <br /> <br />16 - 224 - Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />1.
