March 22, 2016 <br /> <br /> BE IT RESOLVED <br />by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the <br />City Manager be, and hereby is, authorized to execute such deeds or other documents <br />as may be necessary to convey 1525 Portsmouth Boulevard (Tax Parcel 0109-0120) to <br />the Economic Development Authority of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, said property <br />being generally described as follows: <br /> <br />ALL THAT certain lot of land, with its appurtenances, situate in the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, on the south side of Gosport or Old Key Road, between Beach (formerly B) <br />and Lansing (formerly C) Streets, and being a part of lot numbers six hundred and <br />seven (607) and six hundred eight (608) on the plat of the South Portsmouth Land and <br />Improvement Company, recorded in the Clerk’s Office of the Circuit Court of Norfolk <br />County in Map Book 2, pages 58 and 59, and bounded and described as follows, to-wit: <br />Beginning at the northwest corner of the lot of land formerly owned by A. J. Phillips, <br />which fronts on Highland Avenue, which said corner is one hundred and ninety-three <br />(193) feet east from the east side of Lansing Avenue, and sixty-six (66) feet, more or <br />less, north of the north side of Highland Avenue, at a fence line; thence east along said <br />fence line thirty-two (32) feet; thence north and parallel with Lansing Avenue to the <br />south side of the old Gosport or Old Key Road; thence west along said road to the line <br />of William Whitehead; and thence south along Whitehead’s line and parallel with <br />Lansing Avenue to the point of beginning; it being the property conveyed to the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia by Deed of Bargain and Sale from James Edward King dated <br />December 2, 1952 and recorded in the Clerk’s Office of the Circuit Court for the City of <br /> <br />Portsmouth, Virginia in Deed Book 264 at Page 13.” <br /> <br />Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Moody, Psimas, Whitaker, Wright <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />- New Business - <br /> <br />16 - 98 - Boards and Commissions <br /> <br />There were no appointments. <br /> <br />16 - 99 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br /> Mayor Wright deferred to City Manager Patton regarding information provided at the <br /> <br />previous City Council meeting stating shortages in the Fire Department. <br /> <br /> <br /> City Manager Patton provided City Council and citizens with an update on the <br />current vacancies in the Fire Department. <br /> <br /> <br /> Dr. Whitaker asked City Manager Patton if there were any retired employees <br /> <br />working as independent contractors for the City which would enable them to receive <br />a retirement check as well as payment for being an independent contractor. <br /> <br /> <br /> City Manager Patton explained that this was not the case for any employee working <br />in the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br /> Mayor Wright informed citizens and City Council of the robotics competition that was <br /> <br />st <br />held for the 1 time in the City at Churchland High School. <br /> <br />16 - 100 - Report on Pending Items <br /> <br />There were no pending items. <br /> <br />16 - 101 - Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br /> Mayor Wright asked that City Manager Patton provide an update on the HRA <br /> <br />program. <br /> <br /> <br /> City Manager provided an update on the HRA program. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
