<br />January 19, 2016 <br /> <br />At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, January 19, 2016, there <br />were present: <br /> <br />Mayor Kenneth I. Wright, *Vice Mayor Elizabeth M. Psimas, William E. Moody, Jr., <br />Paige D. Cherry, Dr. Curtis E. Edmonds, Sr., Danny W. Meeks, Dr. Mark M. Whitaker. <br /> <br />15 - 330 - The following call for the meeting was read: <br /> <br /> "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held at the Churchland <br />Branch Library, 4934 High Street West, 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2016 for the <br />purpose of a Community Meeting. <br /> <br /> In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. <br /> <br />By order of the Mayor." <br /> <br />The following concerns were discussed by citizens: <br /> <br />1. Lack of trust in City Council’s ability to make sound financial decisions for the City. <br /> <br />2. New Vision Principles omitting Pride of Past. <br /> <br />3. Lack of transparency by City Council. <br /> <br />4. City Council fining Councilman Moody. <br /> <br />5. Suggestions on handling the budget. <br /> <br />6. The need for safe neighborhoods, great schools, and lower taxes. <br /> <br />7. Concern with loss of money in commercial assessments. <br /> <br />8. Lack of customer service in the water department. Also city worker trucks sitting at <br />commercial businesses. <br /> <br />9. Opposition to removal of Confederate monument. <br /> <br />10. Help for the homeless and those with mental health issues. <br /> <br />11. Concern with the tolls on the downtown and midtown tunnels. <br /> <br />12. Concern with proposed waste disposal in the City. <br /> <br />13. Concern with City Council not responding to citizens inquiries. <br /> <br />14. Concern with the no U-turn sign at the intersection of Town Point and Twin Pines <br />Roads <br /> <br />15. City Council’s lack of communication with the media. <br /> <br />16. The need to fund public safety. <br /> <br />17. Concern with blocking of intersections by trains and the damage to homes being <br />made by trains in neighborhoods. <br /> <br />18. Lack of communication among councilmembers. <br /> <br />19. Need to increase minimum wage. <br /> <br />20. Concern with the increase in property assessments. <br /> <br />21. Need for better drainage in the City. <br /> <br />22. Need to develop on undeveloped land in the City. <br /> <br />23. Concern with decrease in business due to tolls. <br /> <br />
