October 13, 2015 At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, October 13, 2015, there were present: Mayor Kenneth I. Wright, Vice Mayor Elizabeth M. Psimas, William E. Moody, Jr., Paige D. Cherry, Dr. Curtis E. Edmonds, Sr., Danny W. Meeks, Dr. Mark M. Whitaker, City Manager Dr. L. Pettis Patton, Interim City Attorney Cheran D. Cordell. 15 - 354 - The following call for the meeting was read: th "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the 6 Floor Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 13, 2015 for the purpose of a Public Work Session. In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. By order of the Mayor." 15 - 355 - The following items were discussed in Public Work Session: 1. Presentation on City Leasing Properties - LaVoris Pace, Acting Deputy City Manager 2. Presentation on 2015-2016 Recreation Programming - Mark Palamarchuck, Acting Director of Parks, Recreation and Leisure Services 3. Economic Development Part I - Mallory Butler, Acting Director of Economic Development 15 - 356 - Motion by Ms. Psimas, and seconded by Dr. Whitaker, to go into Closed Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.2-3711 A.1 of the Code of Virginiafor the purpose of discussion and consideration of prospective candidates for employment as City Attorney; and Virginia Code §2.2-3711A.7 for the purpose of consultation with legal counsel pertaining to actual or probable litigation where such consultation or briefing in an open meeting would adversely affect the negotiating or litigating posture of the public body. The motion was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Moody, Psimas, Whitaker, Wright Nays: None Motion by Mr. Cherry, and seconded by Mr. Moody, pursuant to Section 2.2- 3712(D) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members’ knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: 1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and 2. Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion, by which the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in the meeting by the City Council. The motion was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Moody, Psimas, Whitaker, Wright Nays: None
