<br />At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, July 14, 2015, there were
<br />present:

<br />Mayor Kenneth I. Wright, Vice Mayor Elizabeth M. Psimas, William E. Moody, Jr., Paige
<br />D. Cherry, *Dr. Curtis E. Edmonds, Sr., *Danny W. Meeks, Dr. Mark M. Whitaker,
<br />Interim City Manager J. Brannon Godfrey, Jr., Interim City Attorney Cheran D. Cordell.
<br />
<br />15 - 257 - The following call for the meeting was read:
<br />

<br /> "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the 6 Floor
<br />Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 14, 2015 for the
<br />purpose of a Public Work Session.
<br />
<br /> In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting.
<br />
<br />By order of the Mayor."
<br />
<br />15 - 258 - The following items were discussed in Public Work Session:
<br />
<br />1. Removal of Confederate Monument - Brannon Godfrey, Interim City Manager
<br />
<br />2. Briefing on Sunset Thursdays @ Portside - LaVoris Pace, Director of Marketing,
<br />Entertainment and Tourism
<br />
<br />15 - 259 - Motion by Ms. Psimas, and seconded by Dr. Whitaker, to go into Closed
<br />Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.2-3711 of the Code of Virginia, for the
<br />following:
<br />
<br />-
<br />Consultation with legal counsel and briefings by staff members or consultation
<br />pertaining to actual or probably litigation as per Subsection 2.2-3711 A.7.
<br />
<br />-
<br />Discussion or consideration of the acquisition of real property for a public
<br />purpose, or of the disposition of publicly held real property, where discussion in
<br />an open meeting would adversely affect the bargaining positon or negotiating
<br />strategy of the public body as per Subsection 2.2-3711 A.3.
<br />
<br />-
<br />Discussion concerning a prospective business or industry or the expansion of an
<br />existing business or industry where no previous announcements has been made
<br />of the business or industry’s interest in locating or expanding
<br />
<br />The motion was adopted by the following vote:
<br />
<br />Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Moody, Psimas, Whitaker, Wright
<br />Nays: None
<br />
<br /> Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Cherry, pursuant to Section 2.2-
<br />3712(D) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members’
<br />knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council:
<br />
<br />1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting
<br />requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and
<br />
<br />2. Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion, by which
<br />the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in
<br />the meeting by the City Council.

<br /> The motion was adopted by the following vote:
