June 23, 2015 <br /> <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Psimas spoke on the upcoming events in the City: <br /> <br />th <br />- <br />97 Annual Patriotic Salute in Cradock, Atton Square starting at 9:30 a.m., <br />th <br />Saturday, July 4. <br />rd <br />- <br />Dinner and a Drive-In at Portside Park, Friday, July 3 at 9:30 p.m. <br />- <br />Billy Joel Trio from 6:30-7:30 p.m. and Tidewater Concert Band from 8:30-9:30 <br />p.m. at Portside Park. <br />th <br />- <br />Prayer Initiative at noon on Saturday, July 4. <br /> <br /> Mayor Wright congratulated all high school students that graduated. <br /> <br /> <br /> Dr. Whitaker asked and received a consensus of Council to have Transformation <br /> <br />Consulting provide a presentation at a meeting in July to help in policy development <br />of the M/WBE (Minority and Women Owned Business Enterprise) program. <br /> <br /> <br /> Mr. Moody asked that City Council partner with the School Board to implement the <br /> <br />M/WBE program. <br /> <br /> Dr. Whitaker asked that City Council look into removing the Confederate Memorial at <br /> <br />the corner of Court Street and High Street. <br /> <br />15 - 230 - Report on Pending Items <br /> <br /> <br /> Bernadette Hogge, Ombudsman, gave an update on items of concern presented by <br />citizens at the June 9, 2015 City Council Meeting. <br /> <br />15 - 231 - Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />1. Sheriff Watson, 701 Crawford Street, provided City Council with information on the <br />transportation costs for his department. <br /> <br />2. Joe Wright, 1451 Welcome Road, thanked City Council for looking into removing the <br />Confederate Memorial, for passing the ordinance exempting disabled veterans from <br />paying personal property tax and for clearing the area on Rotunda Avenue. <br /> <br /> Mayor Wright asked that Brannon Godfrey, Interim City Manager, bring back a rough <br /> <br />estimate on removing the Confederate Monument. <br /> <br />3. William Devers, 4540 Hatton Place Road, voiced his opposition to City Council <br />removing him from the Planning Commission. <br /> <br />4. Jean Shackelford, 2437 Sterling Point Drive, spoke in support of the City not selling <br />Willett Hall. <br /> <br />5. Ricardo Watts, 501 Stratford Street, made suggestions on how the City could be <br />revitalized. <br /> <br />6. Clyde Toler, 1029 Blair Street, spoke on various issues within the City. <br /> <br />7. Barry Randall, 500 Oak Street, spoke on the divisiveness in the City. <br /> <br />8. Wilbert Allen, 1326 Charleston Avenue, spoke on how to bring the City together. <br /> <br />9. Robert Faulk, 215 Depot Drive, voiced his concern with Portsmouth Redevelopment <br />and Housing Authority. <br /> <br />10. Cory Griffin, 3001 Elliott Avenue, voiced his concern with the lack of unity within the <br />City. <br /> <br />On motion, meeting adjourned at 9:30 p.m. <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
