June 23, 2015 <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br /> <br /> Adoption of an ordinance to accept and appropriate and authorize expenditure of <br />$28,141 in funds as provided to the Sheriff's Office by the State Compensation Board. <br />Vision Principle: Efficient, Responsive Government. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br /> <br /> <br /> The Sheriff or his designee will disburse these funds as appropriate. <br /> <br />Motion by Dr. Edmonds, and seconded by Mr. Meeks, to adopt the following <br />ordinance, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $28,141 OF FUNDING RECEIVED FROM THE <br />“ <br />STATE COMPENSATION BOARD IN THE FY 2015-16 GENERAL FUND <br />OPERATING BUDGET TO FUND PART-TIME POSITIONS IN THE SHERIFF’S <br />DEPARTMENT.” <br /> <br />Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Moody, Psimas, Whitaker, Wright <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />15 - 248 - Adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $93,460.78 of funding received <br />from the United States Drug Enforcement Administration in the FY 2015-16 Asset <br />Forfeiture Fund for the Sheriff’s Department. <br />Vision Principle: Efficient, <br />Responsive Government. <br /> <br />Background: <br /> <br /> The Portsmouth Sheriff's Office receives Federal Asset Forfeiture Funds from the <br /> <br />DEA. <br /> <br />Discussion: <br /> <br /> Allows the Sheriff's Office to purchase law enforcement equipment, donate funds <br />to the Drug Court, make improvements to the Jail, purchase computer equipment, <br />purchase anti-drug coloring books and crayons for school kids, and other items <br /> <br />necessary within the guidelines set forth in the Equitable Sharing Guide. <br /> <br />Financial Impact <br /> <br /> There is no negative financial impact incurred by the City of Portsmouth. <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br /> <br /> Adoption of an ordinance to accept and appropriate and authorize expenditure of <br />$93,460.78 in Federal Asset Forfeiture funds.
