May 13, 2014 At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, May 13, 2014, there were present: *Mayor Kenneth I. Wright, Vice Mayor Paige D. Cherry, William E. Moody, Jr., Marlene W. Randall, Dr. Curtis E. Edmonds, Sr., *Danny W. Meeks, City Manager John L. Rowe, Jr., City Attorney George M. Willson. 14 - 176 -The following call for the meeting was read: "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the 6t" Floor Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 13, 2014 for the purpose of a Public Work Session. In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. By order of the Mayor." 14 - 177 -The following item was discussed in Public Work Session: 1. Budget Discussion 14 - 178 -Motion by Ms. Randall, and seconded by Mr. Moody, to go into Closed Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.2-3711 of the Code of Virginia, for the following purposes: - Discussion concerning the acquisition of two parcels of real property for public purposes in the downtown and Truxtun sections of the City, as permitted under Subsection A.3; - Discussion concerning the disposition of publicly held real property related to the MLK project, as permitted under Subsection A.3; and - Consideration of candidate for appointment to city boards and commissions, as permitted under Subsection A.1. The motion was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Moody, Randall, Wright Nays: None Motion by Mr. Edmonds, and seconded by Ms. Randall, pursuant to Section 2.2- 3712(D) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members' knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: 1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and 2. Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion, by which the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in the meeting by the City Council. The motion was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Moody, Randall, Wright Nays: None On motion, meeting adjourned.
