March 11, 2014 "RESOLUTION SUPPORTING THE DISSOLUTION OF THE SOUTH HAMPTON ROADS RESOURCE CONSERVATION AND DEVELOPMENT COUNCIL. WHEREAS, the South Hampton Roads Resource Conservation and Development Council is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to enhance resource conservation and economic development in South Hampton Roads; and WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth agreed to participate in the Council through the adoption of Resolution R-05-56 on October 11, 2005; and WHEREAS, the South Hampton Roads Resource Conservation and Development Council desires to dissolve itself as an organization due to a lack of interest, the vacancy of the Manager of Projects position, and the absence of new projects on the horizon; and WHEREAS, in order for the South Hampton Roads Resource Conservation and Development Council to officially dissolve itself, approval of the Council's legal sponsors is required; and WHEREAS, at the September 17, 2013 meeting of the South Hampton Roads Resource Conservation and Development Council, the members voted to dissolve the organization; and WHEREAS, the Portsmouth City Council has been requested to support the proposed dissolution by adoption of a resolution to that effect. NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia that it supports and approves the dissolution of the South Hampton Roads Resource Conservation and Development Council." Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Wright Nays: None - Mayor Wright spoke on the following events: - Congratulated and thanked Wilson Ward Civic League for efforts in raising funds for James Overton. - Birthday Celebrations for Ida Vine's 100t" birthday and Beverly Clarke's 95t" birthday. - Mr. Moody asked citizens and City Council to keep Alethia Bryce in prayer and wished her a speedy recovery. 14 - 103 -Report on Pending Items • Bernadette Hogge, Ombudsman, gave an update on items of concern presented by citizens at the February 25, 2014 City Council Meeting. 14 - 104 -Non-Agenda Speakers 1. Athena Jones, 600 Yorktown Avenue, spoke in opposition to the proposed methadone clinic. 2. Frances Jones, 600 Yorktown Avenue, spoke in opposition to the proposed methadone clinic. 3. Steve Carroll, 3112 Riveredge Drive, voiced his opposition to the tolls. 4. Elvira Johnson, 3313 Armstead Drive, thanked City Council and citizens for attending Wilson Ward Civic League's fund raising event. 5. Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky, P. O. Box 50141, spoke in support of Medicaid Expansion.
