June 11, 2013 At a Regular Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, June 11, 2013, there were present: Mayor Kenneth I. Wright, Vice Mayor Paige D. Cherry, William E. Moody, Jr., Marlene W. Randall, Elizabeth M. Psimas, Dr. Curtis E. Edmonds, Sr., Danny W. Meeks, City Manager John L. Rowe, Jr., City Attorney George M. Willson. Councilman Curtis E. Edmonds, Sr., opened the meeting with prayer, which was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. Mayor Wright called the meeting to order and welcomed all in attendance. Motion by Ms. Psimas, and seconded by Mr. Edmonds, to approve the minutes of a Called Meeting of May 28, 2013, and of a Regular Meeting of May 28, 2013, and was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Wright Nays: None 13-243 -Presentation: • Presentation of special lapel pins to newly appointed board and commission members. - Public Hearing - 13-244 Public hearing on a proposed Virginia Enterprise Zone Designation Application to the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. There were no speakers. 13 - 245 -Public hearing on use permit applications: (a) UP-13-04 LONG POINT SUBDIVISION - Cherita Copeland Jenkins requests a use permit for a family child day care home at 5 Admiral Court for 12 children aged 6 weeks old to 12 years of age. The Comprehensive Plan's Generalized Future Land Use Map recommends low to medium density single-family residential development. Vision Principle: Lifelong Learning Community and Neighborhoods and a Sense of Community. 1. Cherita Jenkins, 5 Admiral Court, spoke in support of this item. 2. Devonette Thomas, 6 Watervew Court, spoke in support of this item. Motion by Mr. Cherry, and seconded by Mr. Moody, that UP-13-04 be approved on first reading, and was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Meeks, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Wright Nays: None (b) UP-13-05 PARKVIEW - Verizon Wireless requests a use permit to co-locate a telecommunication antenna and supporting ground equipment on an existing 287 foot tall tower located at 1318 Spratley Street. The Comprehensive Plan's Generalized Future Land Use Map recommends commercial development. Vision Principle: A Robust Economy for Working Men and Women.. 1.
