July 24, 2012 At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, July 24, 2012, there were present: Mayor Kenneth I. Wright, Vice Mayor Charles B. Whitehurst, Sr., William E. Moody, Jr., Marlene W. Randall, Stephen E. Heretick, Paige D. Cherry, Dr. Curtis E. Edmonds, Sr., City Manager Kenneth L. Chandler, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman. 12 - 297 -The following call for the meeting was read: "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the 6t" Floor Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 24, 2012 for the purpose of a Public Work Session. In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. By order of the Mayor." 12 - 298 -The following items were discussed in Public Work Session: 1. Uranium Mining in Virginia -Patrick Wells, Virginia Uranium Inc. 2. Hot Topics - Justine Jones, Budget/Management Analyst - • Project Charters for Management Plan - Brannon Godfrey, Deputy City Manager - • Splash Park, Gateway and Grass Cutting Update - Councilman Moody - o Banner Post in Midtown - James Wright, Interim City Engineer - • Court Parking Lot Paving - Courthouse Update: • Clock Request -Councilman Moody • Basic Cable -Vice Mayor Whitehurst 3. City Council Liaison Reports - - Mayor Wright - • Virginia Port Authority Public Hearing 12 - 299 -Motion by Mr. Cherry, and seconded by Ms. Randall, to go into Closed Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.2-3711(A)(1) of the Code of Virginia, to discuss appointments by City Council. The subject matter of the meeting is to discuss the qualifications of candidates for appointment to boards and commissions. The purpose of the meeting is to permit confidential discussion of candidates. The motion was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Heretick, Moody, Randall, Whitehurst, Wright Nays: None Motion by Mr. Cherry, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, pursuant to Section 2.2- 3712(D) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members' knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: 1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and 2. Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion, by which the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in the meeting by the City Council.
