June 26, 2012 At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, June 26, 2012, there were present: Mayor Kenneth I. Wright, Vice Mayor Charles B. Whitehurst, Sr., William E. Moody, Jr., Marlene W. Randall, Stephen E. Heretick, Paige D. Cherry, Dr. Curtis E. Edmonds, Sr., City Manager Kenneth L. Chandler, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman. 12 - 255 -The following call for the meeting was read: "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the 6t" Floor Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 26, 2012 for the purpose of a Public Work Session. In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. By order of the Mayor." 12 - 256 -The following items were discussed in Public Work Session: 1. Hot Topics - - Pokey Smokey II Update -Brannon Godfrey, Deputy City Manager - North Pier/Desk Inc. Properties Update -Patrick Small, Director of Economic Development - Carbon Monoxide Incident Response Summary- Deputy Chief Troy Tilley 2. Management Plan Follow-up -Justine Jones, Budget/Management Analyst / Kenneth Chandler, City Manager 3. City Council Liaison Reports - - Vice Mayor Whitehurst - • "What is Portsmouth" Fact Sheet Review 12 - 257 -Motion by Mr. Edmonds, and seconded by Mr. Moody, to go into Closed Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.2-3711(A)(7) of the Code of Virginia, to consult with legal counsel about specific legal matters requiring legal advice. The subject matter will be the deadline for candidates to file for local elective office in Portsmouth. The purpose shall be to permit confidential discussion of this subject. The motion was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Moody, Randall, Whitehurst, Wright Nays: None Abstained: Heretick (Legal representative for disqualified candidates) Motion by Mr. Edmonds, and seconded by Mr. Moody, pursuant to Section 2.2- 3712(D) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members' knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: 1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and 2. Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion, by which the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in the meeting by the City Council. The motion was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Heretick, Moody, Randall, Whitehurst, Wright Nays: None
