June 12, 2012 At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, June 12, 2012, there were present: Mayor Kenneth I. Wright, Vice Mayor Charles B. Whitehurst, Sr., William E. Moody, Jr., *Marlene W. Randall, Stephen E. Heretick, Paige D. Cherry, *Dr. Curtis E. Edmonds, Sr., City Manager Kenneth L. Chandler, Deputy City Attorney Cheran Cordell. 12 - 235 -The following call for the meeting was read: "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the 6t" Floor Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 12, 2012 for the purpose of a Public Work Session. In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. By order of the Mayor." 12 - 236 -The following item was discussed in Public Work Session: 1. Hot Topics - Brannon Godfrey, Deputy City Manager - • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Program • Main Library Reopening o Opening date June 25t" o Reopening ceremony July 2nd • Cradock Recreation Center - Kenneth Chandler, City Manager - • Courts Facility Update o July 19t", Private tour for Judges and City Council o July 20t", 1 pm, ribbon cutting and tour - Richard Hartman, Interim Deputy City Manager - • Churchland High School Facility Update - Councilman Moody requested a discussion with school on heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC). 2. City Council Liaison Reports - - Vice Mayor Whitehurst - • Management Plan suggested topics 12 - 237 -Motion by Mr. Cherry, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to go into Closed Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.2-3711(A)(1) of the Code of Virginia, to discuss an appointment or appointments by City Council. The subject matter of the meeting is qualifications of candidates for appointment to boards and commissions. The purpose of the meeting is to permit confidential discussion of candidates. The motion was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Heretick, Moody, Randall, Whitehurst, Wright Nays: None Motion by Mr. Edmonds, and seconded by Mr. Heretick, pursuant to Section 2.2- 3712(D) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members' knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: 1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and 2. Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion, by which the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in the meeting by the City Council.
