May 21, 2012 At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Monday, May 21, 2012, there were present: Mayor Kenneth I. Wright, Vice Mayor Charles B. Whitehurst Sr., ~IVilliam E. Moody, Jr., *Marlene W. Randall, Paige D. Cherry, City Manager Kenneth L. Chandler, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman. 12 - 207 -The following call for the meeting was read: "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the 6t" Floor Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 5:00 p.m., Monday, May 21, 2012 for the purpose of a Public Work Session. In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. By order of the Mayor." Finance Committee Members Present: Byran Kloeppel Alonzo Short James Ellis James Overton Franklin Edmondson, Commissioner of the Revenue 12 - 208 -The following item was discussed in Public Work Session: 1. Joint Meeting with the Finance Committee 12 - 209 -Motion by Mr. Cherry, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to go into Closed Meeting pursuant to Virginia Code 2.2-3711(A)(1), to discuss an appointment or appointments by City Council. The subject matter of the meeting is qualifications of candidates for appointments to boards and commissions. The purpose of the meeting is to permit confidential discussion of candidates. The motion was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Cherry, Moody, Randall, Whitehurst, Wright Nays: None Motion by Ms. Randall, and seconded by Mr. Moody, pursuant to Section 2.2- 3712(D) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members' knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: 1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and 2. Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion, by which the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in the closed meeting just concluded by the City Council. The motion was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Cherry, Moody, Randall, Whitehurst, Wright Nays: None On motion, meeting adjourned at 6:44 p.m.
