May 22, 2012 <br />- Mayor Wright provided an update on the following events: <br />- Relay for Life <br />- Walk for Hunger for Oasis <br />- 200+ Men Breakfast <br />- Congressional Art Competition <br />147 <br />- Mr. Whitehurst asked that City Council discuss what to do with the $5.6 million in <br />reserve. He also suggested that the old furniture in Cradock High School be given <br />to the alumni for auction. <br />- Mr. Moody reminded citizens of the Memorial Day Parade, Monday, May 28, 2012 at <br />11 am. He also asked Staff to look into implementing an idling or fuel efficiency <br />policy in the City. <br />- Mayor Wright reminded citizens of the Umoja Festival that will begin Friday, May 25 <br />-Sunday, May 27, 2012. <br />12 - 224 -Report on Pending Items <br />There were no pending items. <br />12 - 225 -Non-Agenda Speakers <br />1. Steve Carroll, 3112 Riveredge Drive, voiced his concern with the School Board <br />surplus. <br />2. Clyde Toler, 1029 Blair Street, voiced his appreciation for the Memorial Day Parade <br />and asked that all citizens come out and support the parade. He also suggested <br />having wounded veterans lead the parade next year. . <br />3. Jill Kelly, 4404 Southampton Arch, asked if City Council could help with getting <br />Hampton Roads Transit (HRT) to increase the bus routes in the City or have HRT <br />change its Handi-Ride policy. <br />4. Terry Danaher, 413 Dinwiddie Street, wanted to make sure that citizens knew that <br />the fight was still on to stop tolls. She also asked for continued support from <br />citizens. <br />5. Pat Simons, 801 Mimosa Road, voiced her concern with the funding that was <br />provided to the schools. <br />6. Charles Greenhood, 215 Park Road, asked the City Council to help in the fight <br />against the tolls by providing funding to file the lawsuit. <br />On motion, meeting adjourned at 8:23 p.m. <br />Minutes prepared by: <br />Anita Y.
