<br />Julv 12. 2011 <br /> <br />At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, there were <br />present: <br /> <br />Mayor Kenneth I. Wright, Vice Mayor Charles B. Whitehurst, Sr., *William E. Moody, Jr., <br />*Marlene W. Randall, Stephen E. Heretick, Paige D. Cherry, Dr. Curtis E. Edmonds, Sr., <br />City Manager Kenneth L. Chandler, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman. <br /> <br />11 - 274 - The following call for the meeting was read: <br /> <br />"Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the 6th Floor <br />Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2011 for the <br />purpose of a Public Work Session. <br /> <br />In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. <br /> <br />By order of the Mayor." <br /> <br />11 - 275 - The following items were discussed in Public Work Session: <br /> <br />1. Hot Topics - <br />Main Branch Library Restoration Project - Brannon Godfrey, Deputy City <br />Manager <br />Regional Jail/Intake Services Update - Police Chief Ed Hargis <br />Police Training Relocation - Police Chief Ed Hargis <br />Funding for Civic Organizations - Kenneth Chandler, City Manager <br /> <br />2. City Council Liaison Reports <br />- Vice Mayor Whitehurst - <br />. Initiated discussion on the following topics: <br />o Museum Fees <br />o Veterans Commission <br />o Blue Ribbon Commission for cemeteries <br />Councilman Cherry - <br />. Spoke on Parks & Recreation Steering Committee <br /> <br />11 - 276 - Motion by Mr. Cherry, and seconded by Ms. Randall, to go into Closed <br />Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.2-3711 (A)(7) of the Code of Virginia, to <br />consult with legal counsel about specific legal matters requiring legal advice. <br /> <br />The subject matter may include the Sheriff's budget and/or the City's retirement <br />system. <br /> <br />The purpose shall be to permit confidential discussion of these subjects <br /> <br />The motion was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Heretick, Randall, Whitehurst, Wright <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Cherry, and seconded by Mr. Heretick, pursuant to Section 2.2- <br />3712(0) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members' <br />knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: <br /> <br />1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting <br />requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and <br /> <br />2. Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion, by which <br />the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in <br />the meeting by the City Council. <br /> <br />The motion was adopted by the following vote: <br />
