Julv 12. 2011 At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, July 12, 2011, there were present: Mayor Kenneth I. Wright, Vice Mayor Charles B. Whitehurst, Sr., *William E. Moody, Jr., *Marlene W. Randall, Stephen E. Heretick, Paige D. Cherry, Dr. Curtis E. Edmonds, Sr., City Manager Kenneth L. Chandler, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman. 11 - 274 - The following call for the meeting was read: "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the 6th Floor Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 12, 2011 for the purpose of a Public Work Session. In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. By order of the Mayor." 11 - 275 - The following items were discussed in Public Work Session: 1. Hot Topics - Main Branch Library Restoration Project - Brannon Godfrey, Deputy City Manager Regional Jail/Intake Services Update - Police Chief Ed Hargis Police Training Relocation - Police Chief Ed Hargis Funding for Civic Organizations - Kenneth Chandler, City Manager 2. City Council Liaison Reports - Vice Mayor Whitehurst - . Initiated discussion on the following topics: o Museum Fees o Veterans Commission o Blue Ribbon Commission for cemeteries Councilman Cherry - . Spoke on Parks & Recreation Steering Committee 11 - 276 - Motion by Mr. Cherry, and seconded by Ms. Randall, to go into Closed Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.2-3711 (A)(7) of the Code of Virginia, to consult with legal counsel about specific legal matters requiring legal advice. The subject matter may include the Sheriff's budget and/or the City's retirement system. The purpose shall be to permit confidential discussion of these subjects The motion was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Cherry, Edmonds, Heretick, Randall, Whitehurst, Wright Nays: None Motion by Mr. Cherry, and seconded by Mr. Heretick, pursuant to Section 2.2- 3712(0) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members' knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: 1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and 2. Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion, by which the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in the meeting by the City Council.
