Recommendation: · Adoption of a resolution for the City to enter into an agreement with the Hampton Roads Regional Academy of Criminal Justice. Purpose and Need: · To sustain and enhance the training quality of police department staff to more effectively service the community. · To provide initial entry and in-service training for police department employees. Financial Impact: · The fee for training services provided is $54,180. This money is already identified in the training budget of the Police Department. Motion by Mr. Benn, and seconded by Mr. Griffin, to adopt the following resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: "A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT ESTABLISHING THE HAMPTON ROADS CRIMINAL JUSTICE TRAINING ACADEMY. BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that the City Manager be, and he hereby is, authorized to enter into an agreement with the Cities of Hampton, Newport News, Poquoson, and Williamsburg and the Counties of James City and York to authorize amendment of the existing charter of the Hampton Roads Regional Academy of Criminal Justice ("Academy"), to change the name of the Academy to the Hampton Roads Criminal Justice Training Academy, and to otherwise continue the existence and operation of the Academy and to effectuate such other changes in accordance with the provisions of Sections 15.2-1747, et seq., of the Code of Virginia."
