Corprew, Jr., <br />Robert Gray, L. Louise Lucas, J. Herbert Simpson, LaMar <br />Williams, George L. Hanbury, II, City. Manager, Steven <br />LieDerman, City Attorney <br /> <br /> Vice Mayor J. Robert Gray, opened the meeting with prayer, <br />followed by the Pledge of Allegiance of Flag. <br /> <br /> 88-185 - Public Hearing on use permit and group housing <br />project applications: <br /> <br />(a) UP-88-5 <br /> <br />CRADOCK NEIGHBORHOOD Use permit <br />application of Raymond L. Cox, owner, for a <br />junkyard at 3412 and 3500 George Washington <br />Highway. <br /> <br /> Raymond L. Cox, 3412 and 3500 George Washington Highway, <br />representing Cox Enterprises, spoke in support of the use permit. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Gray, to defer <br />UP-88-5 to the next regular meeting of May 24, 1988, and by <br />unanimous vote. <br /> <br />(b) UP-88-6 <br /> <br />CRADOCK NEIGHBORHOOD - Use permit <br />application of Hampton Roads investment <br />Corporation, owner, by the C & P Telephone <br />Company of Virginia, for a telephone <br />exchange on property at the northeast corner <br />of Suburban Parkway and George Washington <br />~Highway. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Gray, to concur in <br />the recommendation of the Planning Commission to approve UP-88-6, <br />on first reading~ and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />(c) UP-88-7 <br /> <br />CRADOCK NEIGHBORHOOD - Use permit <br />application of George T~ McLean Company, <br />owner, by Richard S. Couch, Vice President <br />of Apache-Blast, Inc., for a coal slag <br />processing plant at 3310 George Washington <br />Highway. <br /> <br /> Richard Couch, 616 San Pedio Drive, Chesapeake, representing <br />Tidewater Materials, spoke in favor of the use permit. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Simpson and seconded by Mr. Barnes, to concur <br />with the recommendation of the Planning Commission to approve <br />UP-88-7. <br /> <br /> Amendment to the motion of Mr. Co~prew and seconded by Mrs. <br />Lucas, to add an additional condition pertaining to landscaping. <br /> <br /> Substitute motion of Mr. Barnes~ to defer the matter to the <br />meeting of May 24, 1988 died due to lack of a second. <br /> <br /> Amendment was withdrawn pending review of the consideration <br />of landscaping and screening prior to sedond reading. <br /> <br /> UP-88-7 was approved on first reading, including the five <br />conditions and with review of considering the addition of <br />landscaping and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> <br />
