~ay! 11~ 1988 <br /> <br /> Councilwoman Lucas, disclosed that the STOP organization <br />receives a contribution from the City of Portsmouth and that she <br />is the Executive Director, so that she would have to abstain on <br />voting on that portion of it. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Gray, to approve <br />funding for STOP, and was adopted by 6-0-1 (Abstaining-Lucas) <br />vote. <br /> <br />a) On motion of Mr. Barnes and seconded by Mr. Simpson, the <br />following ordinance, excluding Item rem~oved was adopted on first <br />reading, and by unanimous vote:~ ~ <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE FUNDS NECESSARY FOR OPERATION <br /> OF THE CITY GOVERNMENT FOR!AND DURING THE FISCkL Y-EAR <br /> BEGINNING JULY 1, 1988 AND ENDING JUNE 30, 1989." <br /> <br />b) On motion of Mr. Ba.rnes and seconded by Mrs. Lucas, the <br />followi~ng ordinance was approved on first reading, and by <br />unanimous vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINA'NCE TO RE-ENACT ORDINANCE NO. 1985-39 AS <br />RE-ENkCTED BY ORDINANCES NO. 1986-44 AND 1987-37 IMPOSING <br />AND LEVYING TAXES FOR EACH FISCAL YEAR BEGINNING JULY 1ST <br />AND ENDING JUNE 30TH, UNLESS OTHERWISE CHANGED BY COUNCIL <br />ON REAL ESTATE, TANGIBLE PERSONAL PROPERTY, AND MACHINERY <br />AND TOOLS WITHIN THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA FOR <br />THE PURPOSE OF RAISING REVENUE FOR THE SUPPORT OF GOVERN- <br />MENTAL OPERATIONS AND THE PUBLIC FREE SCHOOLS AND TO PAY <br />PRINCIPAL AND INTEREST ON THE PUBLIC DEPT." <br /> <br />c) On motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mr. Simpson, the <br />following ordiHance was approved on first reading, and by <br />unanimous vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTIONS 20-53 AND 20-55 OF THE CODE <br />OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, PERTAINING TO BUSINESS <br />AND PROFESSIONAL LICENSE TAXES." <br /> <br />d) On motion'of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mr. Williams, <br />following ordinance was approved on first reading, and by <br />unanimous vote: <br /> <br />the <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND SECTION <br />CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, <br />CIGARETTE TAX." <br /> <br />35-91 OF THE CODE OF THE <br />1973, PERTAINING TO.THE <br /> <br />e) On motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mr. Barnes, the <br />following ordinance was approved on first reading, and by <br />unanimous vote: <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO AMEND THE CODE OF THE CITY OF <br />PORTSMOUTH, VIRGINIA, 1973, BY AMENDING SECTION <br />PERTAINING TO MOTOR VEHICLE LICENSE TAXES." <br /> <br />23-470, <br /> <br /> <br />
