OCtober 11, 198'8 <br /> <br /> I recommend that a motion to refund these amounts be <br />approved as requested." <br /> <br /> As listed above. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mrs. Lucas and:seconded by:Mr. Hawks, the <br />refunds were approvedv as requested, and adopted by unanimous <br />vote. <br /> <br />- NEW BUSINESS - <br /> <br /> 88-393 - Mr. Simpson asked that Council support the <br />National Drug Free America Week, October 24-30, 1988, and <br />requested that the Mayor issue a proclamation declaring that <br />week as "National Drug Free American Week" in Portsmouth. Also <br />stated that the Mayor's Drug Task Force will be holding Public <br />Forums at Churchlandv Norcom, and Cradock High Schools that <br />week. <br /> <br /> 88-394 - Mr. Corprew stated that he had requests from <br />several citizens that Council support making a particular <br />cemetery in Portsmouth which is the final resting place for some <br />of Portsmouth's outstanding citizens, Israel Charles Norcom, Ida <br />Barbour, and Jeffrey Wilson, into a national landmark in the <br />Register of Historical Landmarks. Mayor Webb referred the <br />request to the City Manager for investigation and a report back <br />to the Council. <br /> <br /> 88-395 - Mrs. Lucas stated that she wanted to inform the <br />public present at the Council meeting that Council has come to a <br />consensus on a draft for the Human Relations Task Force and that <br />in the near futuret Council should be appointing members to that <br />Commission. <br /> <br /> 88-396 - Mrs. Deborah G. Madewell, 127 Wyoming Avenuet <br />representing self, spoke concerning the Humane Society <br />allegations. <br /> <br /> 88-397 - Motion of Mr. Hawks and seconded by Mr. Gray, to <br />go into an executive session in accordance with Section 2.1-344 <br />of the Code of Virginia to discuss the following: <br /> <br /> 1. Consideration, acquisition and use of real property <br />for public purposes as permitted under subsection (a) (2); <br /> <br /> 2. Consideration of a personnel matter as permitted <br />under subsection (a) (1); <br /> <br /> 3. Consultation with City Attorney and briefing.by staff <br />members pertaining to actual or potential litigation or other <br />legal matters within the jurisdiction of the City Council as <br />permitted under subsection (a) (6); <br /> <br /> 4.
