Dr. Lydia Patton, <br />Director of the Parks and Recreation Department~ is requesting <br />funds to support th~ Olde~ Theatre Company. <br /> <br /> A grant from the Business consortium for Arts Support will <br />be used for promotions, light rentals, ~cript rentals and <br />royalties and building maintenance for the six shows that will <br />be offered throughout the year. A ~0tal of $5,00.0 is requested <br />and no local match ts required. <br /> <br /> I highly recommend <br />approval of the enclosed <br />the Business Consortium for Arts Support as a part of the <br />application." <br /> <br /> Mayor Webb stated that she would abstain from voting <br />this resolution because a member of her family is involved <br />the Olde Theatre Company. <br /> <br />your support of.this request and <br />resolution which will be forwarded to <br /> <br />on <br /> <br /> Motion of Mrs. Lucas and se-conded by Mr. Simpson~ the <br />following resolution was adopted, and by the following vo~e: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO SUBMIT AN <br />APPLICATION FOR FUNDING TO THE BUSINESS CONSORTIUM FOR ARTS <br />SUPPORT. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia <br />has created the Department of Parks and Recreation to offer a <br />broad spectrum o~f cultural and recreational activities within <br />the boundaries of the City; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Parks and Recreation Department strive~ to <br />enhance local cultural programs; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Rortsmouth is eligible to submit <br />grant applications fOr funding,pursuant to iregulati~ons governing <br />the administration and use ~f such funds. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by ~he Council ~f the City <br />of~Portsmouth, Virginia, that the City Manager be, and he hereby <br />is, authorized to submit an application~ for funding to the <br />BUsiness Consortium for Arts SuPport to support the Olde Theatre <br />Company." <br /> <br /> A~es: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Hawks, Lucas, Simpson <br /> Nays: None <br /> Abstain: Webb <br /> <br /> 89-36 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption <br />of a motion authorizing the City Council to allocate the funds <br />from the Mayor's Drug Task Force as specified to address the <br />drug treatment, prevention and education efforts in the City. <br /> <br />"Pursuant to your discussion regardin~ the final <br />recommendations of %he Mayor's Drug Task Force which carried <br />allocations, the City Council may desire to act on these as <br />delineated on the attached sheet.
