Julv 27.2010 At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, July 27, 2010, there were present: Vice Mayor Charles B. Whitehurst, Sr., William E. Moody, Jr., *Marlene W. Randall, Stephen E. Heretick, Elizabeth M. Psimas, Paige D. Cherry, City Manager Kenneth L. Chandler, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman. 10 - 343 - The following call for the meeting was read: "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the 6th Floor Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, July 27, 2010 for the purpose of a Public Work Session. In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. By order of the Mayor." 1 0 - 344 - The following items were discussed in Public Work Session: 1. Hot Topics - Richard Hartman, City Engineer 2. Fire Chief Report - Don Horton, Fire Chief 1 0 - 345 - Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Ms. Psi mas, to go into Closed Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.2-3711 (A) of the Code of Virginia, to discuss appointments to boards and commissions pursuant to subsection 1 and pending criminal matters, as per subsection 17: The subject matter of the meeting is particular aspects of reorganization between the Sheriff's Office and the Police Department, and also consideration of candidates for possible appointment to boards and commissions. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss these important matters in confidence in order best to protect public safety, and have frank discussion of candidates. The motion was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Cherry, Heretick, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Whitehurst Nays: None Motion by Ms. Psi mas, and seconded by Mr. Heretick, pursuant to Section 2.2- 3712(D) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members' knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: 1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and 2. Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion, by which the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in the meeting by the City Council. The motion was adopted by the following vote: Ayes: Cherry, Heretick, Moody, Psimas, Randall, Whitehurst Nays: None On motion, meeting adjourned.
