-385 March 14, 1989 89-109 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of a motion to authorize the City Manager to enter into an agreement with VDOT for the construction of interstate signage to promote Willett Hall. "As you are aware, prior to the reopening Of Willett Hall we requested the Virginia Department of Transportation to erect trailblazers along Interstate 264 to provide out of town visitors with direction to the concert hall. The State responded at that time that it would require a year's operation of the facility, in which the City would have to justify certain attendance levels in order to meet the criteria established by-the State. After our first full-year of operation, such a-report was presented to the District Office and the District Engineer, Mr. C. ~. Nash, Jr., has approved our request. The State has estimated the total cost of design, and erection of the trailblazers to be $6,000. The signage will include graphics for I 26~ (one in each d~rection) as well as along the two ramps connecting 1-264 to Frederick. Boulevard. Funds have been identified in the Parks and Recreation budget to offset the anticipated expense. As I have indicated to you in previous correspondence, Willett Hall is rapidly becoming recognized in the region for its acoustics and programming. Th~ placing of the trailblazers along 1-264 will further assist us in developing Willet~ Hall as a regional attraction. The Virginia Department of Transportation requires that the City execute an agreement with them for the signage. As such, I would recommend your approval of a motion.to authorize me to ente~ in such an agreement."
