536 JUly 25, 1989 89-306 Mr. Simpson asked that the Mayor have Mr. Johnny E. Morrison come forward to speak to the Council concerning budgetary funding for his office° The Honorable Johnny E. Morrison, 601 Crawford:Street, representing the Commonwealth's Attorney Office, spoke requesting Council to maintain local funding in his budget for an Assistant commonwealth's Attorney. and a legal secretary. (Exhibit 89-306) :, Motion of Mr. simpson and seconded by Mr. Corprew to suspend the rules and allow speakers to come forward on this item at this time, and was approved by unanimous vote. The following persons spoke in support of the funding for an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney and legal secretary for the Commonwealth's Attorney Office.: John H. Underwood, III, 355 Crawford Parkway, Suite 320, representing the Public Defender's Office. . Gregory M. Pomije, 427 London Boulevard, representing self. ~ R. L. Davis, 3820 High Street, representing Order of Police. (Exhibit 89-306 a) the Fraternal The Honorable Kenneth R. Melvin, 601 Dinwiddie Street, on behalf of the Commonwealth's Attorney Office. Motion of Mr. Simpson and seconded by Mr. Barnes, to have the City Manager investigate the funding of one Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney and legal secretary for the Commonwealth's Attorney Office and report back to Council by the next meeting, and was approved by unanimous vote. 89-307 Mr. Corprew requested that the speakers cards be revised to exclude the time extensions for speakers on the card. The Mayor advised that this was in the process at this time. Mr. Corprew read a letter that was addressed to the City Manager from Mayor Webb (Exhibit 89-307). He stated that he was opposed to the manner in which the item was handled and asked that the item be brought to the floor for a public vote. Mayor Webb advised that Vice Mayor Gray was going to do that under New Business. 89-308 ~ Motion of Mr. Gray and. seconded by Mr. Simpson to authorize the.City to execute the necessary agreements to include the City Clerk, the City Assessor, and the newly appointed City Attorney in the ICMA retirement program, and was adopted by the following vote: 6-1 (Corprew) 89-309 Mayor Webb requested that the City Manager look into the renaming of Nelson Street after Ruth Brown. 89-310 Mayor Webb requested that ~the City Manager provide the Council with an update on Kings Crossing, 89-311 Robert Jones, 3925 Two Oaks Road, spoke concerning his request of Council to look into matters of his retirement from the Police Department and working conditions at the Police Department.
