536 <br /> <br />JUly 25, 1989 <br /> <br />89-306 Mr. Simpson asked that the Mayor have Mr. Johnny E. <br />Morrison come forward to speak to the Council concerning <br />budgetary funding for his office° <br /> <br /> The Honorable Johnny E. Morrison, 601 Crawford:Street, <br />representing the Commonwealth's Attorney Office, spoke <br />requesting Council to maintain local funding in his budget for <br />an Assistant commonwealth's Attorney. and a legal secretary. <br />(Exhibit 89-306) :, <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. simpson and seconded by Mr. Corprew to <br />suspend the rules and allow speakers to come forward on this <br />item at this time, and was approved by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> The following persons spoke in support of the funding for <br />an Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney and legal secretary for the <br />Commonwealth's Attorney Office.: <br /> <br /> John H. Underwood, III, 355 Crawford Parkway, Suite 320, <br />representing the Public Defender's Office. . <br /> <br /> Gregory M. Pomije, 427 London Boulevard, representing <br />self. ~ <br /> <br /> R. L. Davis, 3820 High Street, representing <br />Order of Police. (Exhibit 89-306 a) <br /> <br />the Fraternal <br /> <br /> The Honorable Kenneth R. Melvin, 601 Dinwiddie Street, on <br />behalf of the Commonwealth's Attorney Office. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Simpson and seconded by Mr. Barnes, to have <br />the City Manager investigate the funding of one Assistant <br />Commonwealth's Attorney and legal secretary for the <br />Commonwealth's Attorney Office and report back to Council by the <br />next meeting, and was approved by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />89-307 Mr. Corprew requested that the speakers cards be <br />revised to exclude the time extensions for speakers on the card. <br />The Mayor advised that this was in the process at this time. <br /> <br /> Mr. Corprew read a letter that was addressed to the City <br />Manager from Mayor Webb (Exhibit 89-307). He stated that he was <br />opposed to the manner in which the item was handled and asked <br />that the item be brought to the floor for a public vote. Mayor <br />Webb advised that Vice Mayor Gray was going to do that under New <br />Business. <br /> <br />89-308 ~ Motion of Mr. Gray and. seconded by Mr. Simpson to <br />authorize the.City to execute the necessary agreements to <br />include the City Clerk, the City Assessor, and the newly <br />appointed City Attorney in the ICMA retirement program, and was <br />adopted by the following vote: 6-1 (Corprew) <br /> <br />89-309 Mayor Webb requested that the City Manager look into <br />the renaming of Nelson Street after Ruth Brown. <br /> <br />89-310 Mayor Webb requested that ~the City Manager provide <br />the Council with an update on Kings Crossing, <br /> <br />89-311 Robert Jones, 3925 Two Oaks Road, spoke concerning <br />his request of Council to look into matters of his retirement <br />from the Police Department and working conditions at the Police <br />Department. <br /> <br /> <br />
