Riddick to be reappointed'for a term of years, effective September 1, 1989. four Emergenc~ Medical Services Advisory Commission: Dr. Venita-Newby-©wens to be appointed as replace Dr. R. D. Hunsaker, effective September Long Term Case Coordinating Commission: Dr. Venita Newby-Owens to be appointed to fill an unexpired term ending December 1, 1991, replacing Dr. R. D. Hunsake~. - ~ Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing. Authority: Ernest F. Hardee to be reappointed for a term of four years, effective September 1, 1989. ~ - Transportation Safety Commission: Dr. Venita Newby-Owens to be appointed to f~tl~an unexpired term ending November 1, 19~-1/~1~%~i~'D~~. R. D. Hunsaker. Ex-Officio to 12, 1989. for Motion of Mr. Simpson and seconded by Mr. Hawks, to close the nominations and approve unanimously, and there being no further nominations, the above nominations3~r~i.a~pi~ed by unanimous vote. 89-377 Mr. Simpson showed a national sports magazine which contained an article on the PIT held in~ Portsmouth each year. Mayor Webb~requested that the City Clerk make copies for all of Council. ~ 89-378 Mr. Barnes asked that Council have the City Attorney's Office draft a resolution supporting Council's position that any funding made available in the Presidential or Congressional Drug Control pro~rams be mad~ available to the cities, as well as to the State and Federal government, for mandated programs. The resolution should be sent to the state governor, the Congressional delegation, the State legislators, and the Virginia Municipal League. Mayor Webb is going to write letters on this also.~ ~ 89-379 Mayor Webb reminded those citizens present of the Positive Portsmouth Conference to be held on Wednesday, ~ September 13, 1989 at 7:00 p.m. in Cit~ Council Chambers and encouraged all to attend. 89-380 R.A. Markel, 417 County Street, representing the Fraternal Order of Police Gosport Lodge 920, spoke on overtime payment for the police officers involved in working Labor Day weekend. Also inquired if the Council had made a decision on additional funding for retired city employees benefits.
