7¸4 <br /> <br />December 12, 1989 <br /> <br /> "I am pleased to announce that the Virginia Department of <br />Criminal Justice Services (DCJS) has awarded the Portsmouth <br />Police Department a grant award of $85,576. The money was <br />allocated to DCJS from the Genera~ Assembly for grants to allow <br />localities to purchase essential law'enforCement communications <br />equipment. <br /> <br /> The Communications Grant Award wilt provide 23 portable <br />radios to the Police Department. Approval of the grant award <br />by December 13 will enable the Police Deaprtment to save <br />approximately $370 per radio. The. Police.D~partm~nt~nd Civil <br />Defense/Communicaticns will coordinate efforts in'Obtaining the <br />radios. Additional radios witl~attow~the~Police Dep~ment to <br />continue assigning portable radios ~o~individua~ Officers, <br />thereby extending the life of the ~adio due~to cl~se~ care by <br />assigned officers. <br /> <br /> The grant award of S85,576 in state funds from~the <br />Department of Criminal Justice Services represents 92% of the <br />project costs. The additional local match of 8% ($7442) will <br />be allocated from the Police Department's budget. <br /> <br /> I recommend approval of the project and the transfer of <br />$93,018 from the Grants Contingency Account to support the <br />program." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mr. Simpson, to <br />transfer <br />funds from the Grants Contingency Account as ~equeSted, <br />adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />and was <br /> <br />- NEW BUSINESS - <br /> <br /> 89-482 - Councilman Simpson ~ffered the following <br />nominations to the following Boards/Commissions: <br /> <br />BOCA Fire Code Board of Appeals <br /> <br /> Steven Fry was appointed to fill an unexpired <br />October 1, 1991; replacing John E. Hall. <br /> <br />term, ending <br /> <br />Cable Television <br /> <br /> Alan Gollihue appointed for a term of three years, <br />replacing William J. Barnes, Cynthia Morrison appointed for a <br />term of three years replacing Leah Stith, Jean H. Shackleford <br />reappointed for a term of three years, terms ending December 1, <br />1992. <br /> <br />Housing Board of Adjustments & Appeals. <br /> <br /> Linda Hall appointed for a term of three years, ending <br />July 1, 1992; replacing Richard W. Galbreath. <br /> <br />Library Board <br /> <br /> Wayne Ringer, Samuel Shuler was reappointed to a term of <br />three years, ending December 1, 1992; Louise Brenner was <br />appointed for'a kerm of three years, ending December 1, 1992;. <br />replacing Margaret A. Craig. <br /> <br />Museum and Fine Arts Commission <br /> <br /> Charlotte M. Hopewell, reappointed for a term of three <br />years, ending November 1, 1992. <br /> <br /> <br />
