June 26, 1990 <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Simpson and seconded by Mr. Barnes, the <br />following resolution was adopted on first and final reading, <br />by the ~ollowing vote: <br /> <br />and <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION ENDORSING THE BY-LAWS OF THE COUNCIL OF <br />AMERICAN MARITIME MUSEUMS TO BE INCORPORATED INTO THE COLLECTION <br />MANAGEMENT POLICY OF THE PORTSMOUTH MUSEUMS. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of American Maritime Museums has <br />formally requested endorsement of their By-Laws concerning the <br />collection of objects from underwater archaeology sites, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth through its Museums <br />Department may from time to time collect objects from underwater <br />archaeology sites, and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia <br />desires to encourage the preservation of underwater <br />archaeological remains in a manner consistent with acceptable <br />archaeological and museum standards, <br /> <br /> NOW THEREFORE, be it resolved that the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth accepts and endorses the By-Law provisions <br />established by the Council of American Maritime Museums and will <br />insure that acceptable language prohibiting the collection of <br />undocumented maritime archaeological materials included in its <br />collection policy." <br /> <br />Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Hawks, Lucas, Simpson, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> 90-262 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption <br />of a resolution appointing viewers for closing a portion of <br />Wilcox Avenue. <br /> <br /> "Benchmark Building Corporation has made application to <br />vacate, close and discontinue a portion of wilcox Avenue. The <br />Notice of Application and Request for Appointment of Viewers has <br />been advertised. <br /> <br /> I recommend adoption of the resolution appointing viewers <br />for this application." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mrs. Lucas, the <br />following resolution was adopted on first and final reading, and <br />by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION APPOINTING VIEWERS FOR CLOSING A PORTION OF <br />WILCOX AVENUE. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Benchmark Buildinc Corporation has made <br />application to vacate, close and discontinue the <br />hereinafter-described portion of Wilcox Avenue, and it appearing <br />that Notice of Application and Request for Appointment of <br />Viewers has been advertised as required by law. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth, Virginia, that Roy Leinart, James Vick, Thaddeus <br />Lawrence, Richard Todd, and Raymond Tweed be appointed viewers <br />and that Lester Harrington and Robert McCurdy, be appointed <br />alternate viewers in the event one of the preceding viewers <br />fails to participate, said viewers to view the <br />hereinafter-described portion of such street and to report to <br />this Council in writing whether~in their opinion any, and if any <br />what, inconvenience would result in vacating and closing the <br />following: <br /> <br /> <br />
