June 26, 1990 <br /> <br /> At a ~l~rmeeting of the City Council held on Tuesday, <br />June 26, i990, there were present: <br /> <br />Mayor Gloria O. Webb, Vice Mayor J. Robert Gray, Jack P. <br />Barnes, ~Ei G.'Corprew, Jr.~ James C. Hawks, L. Louise <br />Lucas, J. Herbert Simpson, V. Wayne Orton, City Manager, <br />~tu.art E. Katz, C~ty Attorney. <br /> <br /> Rev. Earl D. Martin, Pastor, <br />Church, opened the meeting with a <br />of Alleg. fance to the Flag. <br /> <br />Aldersgate United Methodist <br />prayer, followed by the Pledge <br /> <br />Mayor Webb welcomed all visitors in attendance~ <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Simpson and seconded by Mr. Gray, corrected <br />minutes of a Called Meeting of June 11, 1990; minutes of a <br />Public Hearing of June tl, 1990; a Called Meeting of~June 12, <br />1990; and minutes of a Regular Meeting June 12, 1990, to be <br />approved as received, and was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> 90-256 Presentation of the "Portsmouth Medal of Honor" to <br />Steven H~rley Johnston and Jason Anthony Harrington. They were <br />accompanied by Paulette Mason and Billy Johnston, Steven's <br />mother and brother; and Mary Bunch and Jennifer Bradshaw, <br />Jason's mother and sister. Craig Sellers, the rescued child, <br />and his mother, Stacey O'Brien were also present. <br /> <br /> 90-257 Presentation of the new "Silver Dollar Award" was <br />made to Sheriff Gary W. Waters and Purchasing Agent John F. <br />Grook for their efforts in saving the City over $110,000 through <br />the rebidding of the Jail food contract. <br /> <br /> 90-258 Certificates of Appreciation were presented to <br />Grant Creekmore, Brad Cherry, and Johnny Clemons for their <br />service on the School Board. Talethia Talley accepted the <br />certificate for her father, Bishop Thomas E. Talley, for his <br />service on the Enterprise Zone Advisory Commission. Susan H. <br />Burton received a certificate for her service on the <br />Supplemental Retirement Board. John Epperson received a <br />certificate for his service on the Commission of Architectural <br />Review for Port Norfolk/Park View. L~e E. Kin~ received a <br />certificate for his service on the Parks & Recreation <br />Commission. <br /> <br />UNFINISHED BUSINESS - <br /> <br />CONSENT AGENDA <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Simpson and seconded by Mr. Hawks, the <br />following items approved on first reading at the Regular Meeting <br />of June 12, 1990, ~were adopted on final reading, and by the <br />following vote: <br /> <br />90-234 <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $86,000. FROM THE <br />CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR THE INSTALLATION OF <br />AN UNDERGROUND ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM AND <br />STREET LIGHTING ON THE CITY OWNED PORTION OF THE <br />RIVER POINTE CORPORATE CENTER." <br /> <br />90-235 <br /> <br />"AN ORDINANCE TO APPROPRIATE $46,000. FROM THE <br />PUBLIC UTILITIES CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT FUND FOR THE <br />REPAIR AND REHABILITATION OF THE EQUIPMENT STORAGE <br />BUILDING AT THE PUBLIC UTILITIES COMPLEX ON GODWIN <br />STREET." <br /> <br /> <br />
