290 June 26, 1998 I am, however, in receipt of a request from the Judges of the General District Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court for the installation and manning of a security gate (a metal detector) .in this court. The Sheriff is prohibited from providing the deputies to perform this function by State law. The J & D Cour~ deals with highly emotional domestic cases, an increasing number of drug related cases as well as an escalating number cases involving youth gangs. Therefore, I recommend that the request of the Judges be granted and that $22,244 be allocatedfrom the savings'in the jail provisions for the manning of the security gate. The balance of the savings from the jail provision line, S87,756 is recommended to be transferred to the emergency budget contingency, i.e., the fund balance. I recommend that the City Council favorably adopt~a motion authorizing this transfer." "I am happy to announce that a grant of $5,000 has been awarded to the City by the Virginia Commission for the Arts, a State agency. The grant is to defray expenses incurred in the upcoming "That's All Folks" Bugs Bunny & Friends of Warner Brothers exhibition, which is to run July 1 through August 12, 1990. The exhibition will be at the Courthouse Gallery. These ~unds do not require a local match. I recommend approval of the funds and the transfer of $5,000 from the Grants Contingency account to support the program."
