290 <br /> <br />June 26, 1998 <br /> <br /> I am, however, in receipt of a request from the Judges of <br />the General District Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court for <br />the installation and manning of a security gate (a metal <br />detector) .in this court. The Sheriff is prohibited from <br />providing the deputies to perform this function by State law. <br /> <br /> The J & D Cour~ deals with highly emotional domestic <br />cases, an increasing number of drug related cases as well as an <br />escalating number cases involving youth gangs. Therefore, I <br />recommend that the request of the Judges be granted and that <br />$22,244 be allocatedfrom the savings'in the jail provisions for <br />the manning of the security gate. <br /> <br /> The balance of the savings from the jail provision line, <br />S87,756 is recommended to be transferred to the emergency budget <br />contingency, i.e., the fund balance. I recommend that the City <br />Council favorably adopt~a motion authorizing this transfer." <br /> <br /> Motion Of Mrs. Lucas and seconded by Mr. Barnes, the <br />motion was adopted o~ first and final reading, and by the <br />following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: <br />Nays: <br /> <br />Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Hawks, Lucas, Simpson, Webb <br />None <br /> <br /> 90-268 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption <br />of a motion to approve a grant in the amount of $5,000 for the <br />upcoming "That's All Folks" exhibition, and to transfer same <br />from the Grants Contingency account. <br /> <br /> "I am happy to announce that a grant of $5,000 has been <br />awarded to the City by the Virginia Commission for the Arts, <br />a State agency. The grant is to defray expenses incurred in <br />the upcoming "That's All Folks" Bugs Bunny & Friends of Warner <br />Brothers exhibition, which is to run July 1 through August 12, <br />1990. The exhibition will be at the Courthouse Gallery. <br /> <br /> These ~unds do not require a local match. I recommend <br />approval of the funds and the transfer of $5,000 from the <br />Grants Contingency account to support the program." <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Gray and seconded by Mrs. Lucas, the motion <br />was adopted on first and final reading, and by the following <br />vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes: Barnes, Corprew, Gray, Hawks, Lucas, Simpson, Webb <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> 90-269 Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption <br />of a motion for the City Treasurer and the Director of Finance <br />to refund the following (without interest (Voice Vote): <br /> <br />Real Estate Taxes <br /> <br />;$ ~639.20 to Harold COpeland <br /> <br />Business Licenses <br /> <br /> $ 495.31 to J L & P CorP, Moseberths <br /> 201.17 to Better Vision Eyeglass Center 67.68 to Hofheimers, Inc. <br /> 50.00 to william N. Keeton, Jr. <br /> 85.89 to Larry A. Martindale <br /> <br /> "The City Treasurer is requesting the following refund <br />(without interest) for Real Estate Taxes paid erroneously: <br /> <br />As listed above. <br /> <br /> <br />
