March 12, 1991 <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE CITY MANAGER TO EXECUTE AN <br /> EASEMENT TO CHESAPEAKE AND POTO~IAC TELEPHONE COMPANY OF <br /> VIRGINIA FOR CONSTRUCTION~ INSTALLATION, OPERATION AND <br /> MAINTENANCE OF FIBER OPTIC LINES AND A SWITCHING STATION <br /> AT PRENTIS PARK FIRE STATION NUMBER SIX. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS~ Ches~ap~ke and Potomac Telephone COmpany is <br />currently upgrading its facilities in the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia; and ~ <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the company is installing fiber optic cable <br />throughout the City which necessitates switching equipment; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Prentis Park Fire Station Number Six is located <br />in the area'now being upgraded; and offers the best location <br />for the~necessary swit~ching equipment;~and ~ <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Council of the City of Portsmouth deems it <br />to be in the best interest of the City to grant an easement to <br />Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Virginia fOr this <br />purpose. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the COuncil of the <br />City of Portsmouth;! Virginia, that the City Manager be, and <br />hereby is, authorized to execute an easement agreement with the <br />Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company of Virginia for the <br />installation and construction of-fiber optic cable and a' <br />switching station on propertY of the CiSy of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, more particularly described by that certain plat <br />entitled "Plat Showing Utility Easement Acquired From The City <br />Of Portsmouth And The School Board Of The City Of Pertsmouth", <br />dated January 22, 1991, prepared by Patton, Harris, Rust~& <br />Associates, P.C., Virginia Beach, Virginia, attached hereto and <br />made a part hereof, subjeCt to!such conditionS as the City <br />Manager deems to be in the best interest of the City." <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Corprew, Epperson, King, Hawks, Lucas, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br /> NEW BUSINESS - <br /> <br /> 91-95 - Mr. King~ offered the follOwing nominations to the <br />following Boards and Commissions: <br /> <br /> Transportation Safety Commission <br /> <br /> Joseph Wright to be appointed fOr a term of three years, <br />ending November 1, 1993, replacing Roy W, Ward. <br /> <br /> Downtown Design Commitkee <br /> <br /> Spencer Scott, III, to be appointed for a term of three <br />years, ending F~bruary 1, i994, replacing George Minor, Jr. <br /> <br />Portsmouth Redevelopment Housing Authority <br /> <br /> Lillian B, Cooper, to be appointed to fill an unexpired <br />term, ending September 1, 1993, replacing Martin Bullock. <br /> <br /> Cable Television Commission <br /> <br /> Claude Parent to remain on Commission in Ex-Officio <br />position. <br /> <br /> <br />
