<br />October 14. 2008 <br /> <br />08 - 438 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br />'" Mr. Moody stressed the need for more applicants to the City's Boards and <br />Commissions. He also asked that those who interested in volunteering get an <br />application from the City Clerks Office or from the City's website. <br /> <br />08 - 439 - Report on Pending Items <br /> <br />08 - 440 - Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />1. Brenda Morrisette, 204 Navajo Trail, voiced her concern with the reduction in her <br />husband's retirement and the hardship it has placed on her family financially. <br /> <br />2. Joe Wright, 1451 Welcome Road, asked that the City Council provide better pay for <br />police officers. <br /> <br />3. Reggie Allen, 1421 Wilcox Avenue, voiced his concern with the lack of police <br />presence throughout his neighborhood. <br /> <br />'" Ms. Psimas informed City Council and citizens of the honor bestowed to Police <br />Detective Tim McAndrew as Top Cop in the City Portsmouth and as the Regions <br />Top Cop. Ms. Psi mas also asked that Detective McAndrew to be recognized by the <br />City Council at a later date. <br /> <br />4. J. Brewer Moore, 308 Bobby Jones Drive, informed City Council of the six months of <br />silence from the Virginia Port Authority following an article informing the citizens of <br />funds that may be available for community projects. <br /> <br />5. David Cartier, 30B Effingham Street, voiced his concern with the budget cuts with <br />regards to the Convention and Visitors Bureau. He also offered solutions on how to <br />improve tourism within the City. <br /> <br />6. Chris Anuswith, 401 Becton Place, Virginia Beach, voiced his concern with the <br />budget cuts with regards to the Convention and Visitors Bureau. <br /> <br />7. Veve Edwards, 1020 High Street, voiced his concern with the closing of the summer <br />shelter. <br /> <br />8. Amos Scott voiced his concern with the lack of shelter and jobs for the homeless. <br /> <br />'" Mr. Moody recognizing there were several citizens signed up to speak on the issue <br />at Sandie Point asked the City Attorney to give an update on the situation. <br /> <br />. City Attorney Oksman provided a brief history and update on the situation at Sandie <br />Point. <br /> <br />9. Chris Dickon, 3 Locust Lane, voiced his opposition to the gate that has been erected <br />generating increased traffic throughout the neighborhood. <br /> <br />10. Glenna Cornett, 201 Thelmar Lane, voiced her opposition to the gate that has been <br />erected generating increased traffic throughout the neighborhood. <br /> <br />11. Dr. Mike Buxton, 317 Thelmar Lane, voiced his opposition to the gate that has been <br />erected generating increased traffic throughout the neighborhood. <br /> <br />12. Christina Carlton, 88 Aylwin Road, informed City Council of the restoration process <br />that is taking place at the Fisher Hill Cemetery. <br />
