"A review of the calendar indicates that the City Council Publid He~ri~g scheduled for Monday,~Se~tember 9, 1~91 ~falls on the religl~ous h~Iiday~of Rosh Hashanah.~ ~Additiona~ly~ ~he~City Council meetings scheduled for Monday, October 7th and Tuesday, October 8th conflict with the Virginia Municipal League Conference fn Roanoke,~Virglnla.~' I, therefore, recommend your approval of the attached resolution changing the Monday, September 9th Public Hearing to Tuesday, September 10', 1991 and the Monday, October 7th and~the Tuesday,.October.8th meetings to Tuesday, October 15~. 1991." Motion of Mrs. Lucas and seconded by Mr. Corprew to adopt the following resolution, and by the following vote. "A SPECIAL RESOLUTION CHANGING ~HE~REGU~ARLY SCHEDULED CITY COUNCIL MEETING OF SEPTEMBER 9, 1991 TO SEPTEMBER 10, 1991 AND THE REGULARLY SCHEDULED CITY, COUNCIL MEETINGS OF OCTOBER 7, 1991 AND OCTOBER 8, 1991 TO OCTOBER 15, 1991. BE IT RESOLVED by3the Council of the~City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that~its~ regularly scheduled City Council meeting of September 9, 1991 be changed to and rescheduled for September 10, 1991 and that the regularly scheduled City Council meetings of October 7, 1991 and October 8, 1991 be changed to and rescheduled for October 15, 1991. Adopted by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, at a meeting held July 23, 1991." Ayes: Clemons, Corprew, Epperson, King, Hawks, Lucas, Webb Nays: None 91-260 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of a resolution endorsing the City's application for a tree installation p~ogr~m grant. Adoption of this resolution meets one of ~he conditions for submittal of ~his proposal to the Vicginia Department of Forestry which requires matching funds on the part of the City if the grant is awarded. The grant will provide funding for the plant~ing of trees on Cedar Lane and at the River Pointe complex. "The Virginia Department of Forestry is currently accepting proposals for tree installation programs administered by the U. S. Small Business Administration. If awarded to the City, this grant will provide 55% of the cost of tree installation along Cedar Lane and River Pointe which are areas City staff have cited as the highest priority. The City is responsible for providing funds in the amount of $29,000 while the Small Business Administration will provide $35,000. I am recommending that the City share of funding for this project come from the Capital Improvement Program.
