<br />May 27.2008 <br /> <br />Staff Recommends: <br />Adoption of resolution. Vision Principle: World Class Maritime Center. <br /> <br />Next Steps Following Council Action: <br />. Authorize the contractor, Blueridge General, to continue repairs to the seawall <br />with the additional funds. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. D. Smith, and seconded by Mr. R. Smith, to adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE EXPENDITURE OF FUNDS FOR CHANGE <br />ORDERS EXCEEDING 25% OF THE ORIGINAL CONTRACT WITH BLUERIDGE <br />GENERAL, INC., FOR REPAIRS TO THE SEAWALL. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, City Code Section 12-183(a) requires City Council approval of <br />construction change orders exceeding 25% of the original contract; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Engineer anticipates that change orders to the City's <br />contract with Blueridge General, Inc., for repairs to the Seawall will exceed 25% due to <br />the need to perform additional repairs on the Seawall. <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, <br />Virginia, that the City Engineer be, and he hereby is, authorized to expend such funds, <br />totaling $80,974.62 as have been appropriated and remain for said project in the FY <br />2007 -2008 Capital Improvement Fund." <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, D. Smith, R. Smith, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />- New Business - <br /> <br />08 - 259 - Boards and Commissions <br /> <br />There were no appointments. <br /> <br />08 - 260 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br />'" Mayor Holley appointed Councilman D. Smith and Councilman Moody to work <br />closely with the Superintendent of Schools, the School Board and Management <br />Team in the development of Simonsdale Elementary School. <br /> <br />08 - 261 - Report on Pending Items <br /> <br />There were no pending items. <br /> <br />08 - 262 - Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />1. J. Brewer Moore, 308 Bobby Jones Drive, expressed various concerns about the <br />History Commission. <br /> <br />2. Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky, 363 Middle Street, voiced his opposition to the proposed <br />Martin Luther King Freeway extension, Route 58. <br /> <br />3. Steve Carroll, 3112 Riveredge Drive, asked that the City Council implement a <br />Portsmouth Crime Commission in an effort to combat crime in the city. <br /> <br />On motion, meeting adjourned at 8:11 p.m. <br />
