S30,188 from the Public <br />Utility Capital ImprOvements Fund to_fund plan and <br />specifications preparation and inspection costs for repairs to <br />the Glensheallah elevated water..reservoir, and award of ~the bid <br />to the low bidder,i AEC Engineer and D~sign~rs, <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Epperson and seconded by Mr. King, the <br />following ordinance, deferred from the City Council Meeting of <br />September 24, 1991, was adopted on final reading, and by the <br />followin~ vote: ~ . <br /> <br /> Ayes: Clemons, Corprew, Epperson, Hawks, King, Webb <br /> Nays: None <br /> <br /> - REPORTS FROM T.HE C~TY ~MANAGER - <br /> <br /> 91-349 - Letter.from ~h~ Ci~y.~M&~er recommending <br />adoption of an ordinance to appropriate $60,000 from the Public <br />utility Capital Improvements Fund for the replacement of <br />strategic water transmission control ~alves. <br /> <br /> "The Director of Public ~tilit~es~has requested an <br />appropriation of $60,000 from the Public Utility Capital <br />Improvements Fund to continue the Department's multi-year <br />replacement program of the strategic ~alves that control the <br />flow of water from the City's Lake~.Kilb.y Water Treatment Plant <br />in Suffolk into PortsmDuth. The~e a~e ~ to~al of ninety (90) <br />14", 20", 24" and 30" valves on the transmission mains <br />controlling the flow and they rar~e in,age from 60 to I02 <br />years. These valves are unreliable a[ bes~ and are in many <br />cases inoperative. <br /> <br /> Past appropriations have funded the replacement of twenty <br />of these valves, and this appropriation will fund the <br />replacement of ten additional valves. The actual replacement <br />occurs during low water demand periods in the fall and spring <br />to minimize customer impacts and this work is accomplished by <br />the Public Utilities Construction Crew. <br /> <br /> <br />
