Waters Junior High <br />School l~c'at%d in'the Ci~ty 'of Portsmouth; Virginia; andl <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Legate through fits unselfish and dedicated crew <br />members~have given gen'ero6sty'-6f~-their time~!and intellect to the <br />students of William E. Waters Junior High School by sponsoring a <br />tutorial program, field trips, field day sports, a ghos~ ship <br />eve~nt~at port~ide, and by giving~qnarterly citiZenship awards; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Legare's crew members serve as positive role <br />mo~els fore,the stUdentS ab Wit~iam~E. Waters'J~-~ior High School <br />and ~ther ~young people with whom they interact; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth has reaped the benefits of <br />more and better motivated'students~and more responsible iyoung <br />citizens from the efforts of the Legare's crew members, land- i <br /> <br /> W~EREAS, the Legare's crew members have 'participated in <br />various p~ograms which promote and protect local interests <br />including the kick-off off'the ~Tidewater Coast watch Program and <br />the Tidewater Area Combined Federal Campaign. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, that this Council expresses its appreciation <br />to the crew memberS of the Legate and hereby adopts the iUnited <br />States Coast Guard Cutter Legare (WNEC 912) and all of its crew <br />whose efforts protect and promote local interests and who serve as <br />positive role models for the young citizens of our City.!" <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Corprew, Epperson, Hawks, King, Williamsl, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />92-63 - Resolution adopting the United S~ate Coast Guardi <br />Cutter-Forward (WMEC 911). ~ <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Hawks, seconded by Mr. Clemons, to adlopt the <br />following resolution, and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION ADOPTING THE UNITED STATES COAST GUARD CUTTER <br />FORWARD (WMEC 911). <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, The United States Coast Guard Cutter Forwalrd (WMEC <br />911) was formally commissioned in the City of Portsmouthi, <br />Virginia, on October 4, 1990; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth is the home port fo~ the <br />Forward; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Forward has adopted Churchland Primaryi School <br />located in the City of Portsmouth, Virginia; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Forward through its unselfish and dedicated crew <br />members have given generously of their time and intellec~ to the <br />students of Churchland Primary School by sponsoring a pe~ pal and <br />tutorial program, assisting in school activities, and byi serving <br />as Big Brothers and Big Sisters for youth that are in need of such <br />relationships; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the Forward's crew members serve as positi <br />models for the students at Churchland Primary School and <br />young people with whom they interact; and <br /> <br />ze role <br />other <br /> <br /> <br />
