Januarv 8. 2008 At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, January 8, 2008, there were present: Mayor James W. Holley III, Vice Mayor Marlene W. Randall, *William E. Moody, Jr., Stephen E. Heretick, Elizabeth M. Psi mas, Ray A. Smith, Sr., Douglas L. Smith, City Manager Kenneth L. Chandler, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman. 08 - 10 - The following call for the meeting was read: "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the 6th Floor Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2008 for the purpose of a Public Work Session. In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. By order of the Mayor." 08 - 11 - The following items were discussed in Public Work Session: 1. Boat Tax Update - Betty Burrell 2. City Manager Kenneth Chandler introduced Nicole Thompson, Assistant Director of Economic Development 3. Council Liaison Report Councilman Ray Smith spoke on the Tim Reid Weekend and asked for consideration of moving the Golf Tournament from Sleepy Hole to Bide-A-Wee Golf Course. Councilman Douglas Smith gave an update on the Hampton Roads Planning District Commission I Metropolitan Planning Organization Structure and Regional Interaction. 08 - 12 - Motion by Mr. Heretick, and seconded by Mr. R. Smith, to go into Closed Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.2-3711 (A)(1) of the Code of Virginia to discuss appointments by Council and a personnel matter: The subject matter of the meeting is to discuss appointments to boards and commissions. The purpose of the meeting is to permit confidential discussion of candidates for appointment and a personnel matter. The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. R. Smith, pursuant to Section 2.2- 3712(D) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members' knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: 1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and 2. Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion, by which the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in the meeting by the City Council. The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. On motion, meeting adjourned.
