'

92-178 ~ Letter from the City Manager recommending
adoption of a motion awarding a bid to the low bidder, Rea
Construction Company, for reconstruction of the tennis courts
at Manor High School.

On March 24, 1992, you approved an appropriation of
$151,429 for reconstruction of the tennis courts at Manor High
School. As you recallt the existing courts have been closed
for approximately one year due to extenSive~deterioration.

The original plan was to relocate these courts:to another
site on the school property, however, soil boring's taken'
indicated that the groundwater was higher at the proposed site
than at the existing site. Therefore, it was decided to
rebuild the courts in their present location but at a higher
elevation and add materials to prevent groundwater from
intruding intO the new courts. Bids were~received on April 30,
1992 to accomplish this project. The bids were competitive and
favorable with today's construction market (see Attachment No.
1). The total anticipated projec~ costs are calculated, as
follows:

Construction Contract (Rea Construction Co.)
Contingencies :
Engineering and Inspection

ANTICIPATED TOTAL PROJECT COST

$64,576.00
$13,000.00
$10,000.00

$87,576.00

The Director of Public Works recommends that a contract
awarded to the low bidder, Rea Construction Company, in the
amount of $64,576.00. The remaining balance will be
reprogrammed in next year's Capital Improvement Plan.

be

I, therefore, concur and recommend award of the contract
to the low bidder."
