466 <br /> <br />1992, <br /> <br />August 25, 1992 <br /> <br />At a called meeting of the City Council held on August 25, <br />there were present: <br /> <br />Mayor Gloria O. Webb, Vice Mayor Lee E. King, Johnny M. <br />Clemons, John H. Epperson, *Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., James <br />C. Hawks, Cameron C. Pitts, V. Wayne Orton, City Manager, <br />Stuart E. Katz, City Attorney. <br /> <br />92-278 - The following call for the meeting was read: <br /> <br /> "Please attend a called meeting of the City Council to be <br />held in the City Council Chamber, 6th floor of City Ball, 801 <br />Crawford Street, at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 25, 1992, for the <br />purpose of a joint meeting with the School Board and a Public <br />Work Session. <br /> <br /> In addition you may consider a motion to go into an <br />Executive Session. <br /> <br />By order of the Mayor." <br /> <br /> The following School Board members were present for a <br />joint meeting With City COuncil: <br /> <br /> J. Thomas Benn, IIIf Chairman, James E. Bridgeford, Ralph <br />Buxton, Rev. Charles H. Bowens, II, Leah Stith, David C. <br />$'~itener, Evelyn Hymanf Richard B. Crawford, Dr. Richard <br />Trumble, Superintendent. <br /> <br />Absent: Rev. James M. Whitaker <br /> <br /> A joint presentation was presented on the location and the <br />building for the new I. C. Norcom High SChool. <br /> <br /> 92-279 - Motion of Mr. Griffin and seconded by Mr. Clemons <br />to go into an Executive Session in accordance with Section <br />2.1-344 of the Code of Virginia to discuss the following: <br /> <br /> (1) Consideration of appointments to Boards and <br />Commissions by the City Council as permitted under <br />Subsection (A) (1); <br /> <br /> (2) Consultation With the City Attorney and briefing by <br />staff pertaining to actual litigation in the Mourning case and <br />probable litigation in Churchland as permitted under Subsection <br />(a) (7); <br /> <br /> (3) Consideration of the use of publicly held real <br />property in the southern and Churchland portions of the city <br />and acquisition of property for public use in the Downtown <br />portion of the City as permitted under Subsection (A) (3). <br /> <br />Motion was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Clemons and seconded by Mr. Epperson <br />pursuant to Section 2.1-344.1 of the Code of Virginia <br />certifying that to the best of the Council Member's knowledge <br />during the immediately preceding Executive Session of the City <br />Council: <br /> <br />Only public business matters lawfully exempt from <br />open meeting requirements by the Virginia Freedom of <br />Information Act, and <br /> <br /> <br />
