0';18 <br /> <br />March 9, 1993 <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth, Virginia recognizes the <br />importance of the legislative actions of the Virgln!a General <br />Assembly and their impact on the operation of local government; <br />and <br /> <br /> ~4EREAS, the City Council presented legislative proposals <br />for the 1993 General Assembly session that would assist in the <br />efficient operation of government; and <br /> <br /> ~EREAS, Delegate Kenneth R. Melvin introduced legislation <br />that would provide' over twelve administrative changes needed <br />for the City Charter, and offered a budget amendment to provide <br />$50,000 in state funding for the Children's Museum of Virginia; <br />and <br /> <br /> ~*E4EREAS, the City recognizes the untiring efforts ~nd <br />dedication to ensure passage of this legislation as well as <br />those bills introduced by other members of the Port,s~oU~h <br />Delegation to the Virginia General Assembly on its behalf; and <br /> <br /> WI~EREAS, numerous other bills, resolutions, and budget <br />amendments were introduced by members of the General Assembly <br />that affect local government~ and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS Delegate Kenneth R. Melvin embraced inpd.t from the <br />City and provided the support needed to enhance the quality of <br />life for citizens in this community. <br /> <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that~the Council of'the <br />City of Portsmouth, Virginia hereby extends its sincere <br />appreciation and gratitude to Delegate Kenneth R. Melvin for <br />his leadership during the 1993 session of the Virginia General <br />Assembly and for a job well done. <br /> <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be <br />spread upon the minutes of this Council and that a copy be <br />presented to Delegate Kenneth R. Moore <br /> <br /> Motion of Mr. Pitts and seconded by Mr. Griffin, the <br />following resolution was adopted and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "A RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION FOR DELEGATE WILLIAM S. <br />MOORE, JR., A MEMBER OF THE PORTSMOUTH DELEGATION TO THE <br />VIRGINIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY. <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth, Virginia recognzzes the <br />importance of the legislative actions of the Virginia General <br />Assembly and their impact on the operation of local government; <br />and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, the City Council presented legislative proposals <br />for the 1993 General Assembly session that would assist in the <br />efficient operatio~ of government; and <br /> <br /> WHEREAS, Delegate William S. Moore, Jr. was instrumental <br />in ensuring that City representatives were afforded an <br />opportunity to discuss with state agency officials concerns <br />regarding administrative regulations of the Portsmouth <br />Waterworks System and Transportation needs, offering an <br />amendment to provide $10,000 in state funding for the Virginia <br />Sports Hall of Fame, and is working to ensure that the City <br />receives assistance from the state police to combat crime; and <br /> <br /> <br />
