0';18 March 9, 1993 WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth, Virginia recognizes the importance of the legislative actions of the Virgln!a General Assembly and their impact on the operation of local government; and ~4EREAS, the City Council presented legislative proposals for the 1993 General Assembly session that would assist in the efficient operation of government; and ~EREAS, Delegate Kenneth R. Melvin introduced legislation that would provide' over twelve administrative changes needed for the City Charter, and offered a budget amendment to provide $50,000 in state funding for the Children's Museum of Virginia; and ~*E4EREAS, the City recognizes the untiring efforts ~nd dedication to ensure passage of this legislation as well as those bills introduced by other members of the Port,s~oU~h Delegation to the Virginia General Assembly on its behalf; and WI~EREAS, numerous other bills, resolutions, and budget amendments were introduced by members of the General Assembly that affect local government~ and WHEREAS Delegate Kenneth R. Melvin embraced inpd.t from the City and provided the support needed to enhance the quality of life for citizens in this community. NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that~the Council of'the City of Portsmouth, Virginia hereby extends its sincere appreciation and gratitude to Delegate Kenneth R. Melvin for his leadership during the 1993 session of the Virginia General Assembly and for a job well done. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a copy of this resolution be spread upon the minutes of this Council and that a copy be presented to Delegate Kenneth R. Melvin in recognition of our appreciation. Moore Motion of Mr. Pitts and seconded by Mr. Griffin, the following resolution was adopted and by the following vote: "A RESOLUTION OF APPRECIATION FOR DELEGATE WILLIAM S. MOORE, JR., A MEMBER OF THE PORTSMOUTH DELEGATION TO THE VIRGINIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY. WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth, Virginia recognzzes the importance of the legislative actions of the Virginia General Assembly and their impact on the operation of local government; and WHEREAS, the City Council presented legislative proposals for the 1993 General Assembly session that would assist in the efficient operatio~ of government; and WHEREAS, Delegate William S. Moore, Jr. was instrumental in ensuring that City representatives were afforded an opportunity to discuss with state agency officials concerns regarding administrative regulations of the Portsmouth Waterworks System and Transportation needs, offering an amendment to provide $10,000 in state funding for the Virginia Sports Hall of Fame, and is working to ensure that the City receives assistance from the state police to combat crime; and
